Follow the Turtle Home

Let us know the second it's approved.

Apple approved it about 1 hour ago. I would have told you sooner but I didn't know.

They say it takes up to 24 hours to appear in the App Store. We're putting a newsletter together about it now.

It's called Charts & Tides by Navimatics. The entire east coast from Maine to the Keys and around the west coast of Florida costs $19.99. Wait until the latest version is out - probably tomorrow. It needs a WiFi connection to connect to ActiveCaptain the first time because it downloads a boatload of data in that first synchronization (ha! a boatload!).

Note that I'm mentioning price but this isn't our product - I'm trying to respect non-commercial posting requirements. We get no payments or royalties at all from the product. I helped the developer integrate ActiveCaptain into it and I've been using it for the last couple of months but received no payment at all.

That said, it's really, really cool.

Best of luck Mike. Wishing you a safe trip home! Thanks for the videos on the blog!!!!

Since it does not seem like you will be coming up the Bay I'll just have to live on through the blog, got it bookmarked and subscribed to...

Just in case you don't make it all the way home in your time frame, I read in Chesapeake Bay Magazine that Cape Charles has a pay for 5 get the next 25 days free, in case you need some cheap dockage for a while... I know you won't but thought you might like to know..

Take care and thanks for all the posts, updates, and videos...
Now that's a deal. I made note of it. You never know what can happen. Thanks.

I'm way on the end of the dock so I'm not getting wifi. I'm also up early because I crashed at around 9pm. I'll wait until the sun comes up and mosey down the dock with my iPad and see if I can download the app. I have to say, this iPad is the best thing I've bought for boating besides a boat. The admiral usually just sat there, maybe would take a nap, read, etc... Throw an iPad in her hands and she's totally into the trip and navigating, getting info, weather, everything. She's just not along for the ride, she's actively participating in the planning and navigating. The only time I can get my hands on it is when she's asleep.

Sounds like you are making good time, you will pass by me today, St Catherines Sound is where I go from home, anchor on the South end of Ossabaw Island for a day at the beach. You will have a lot of twisty turny stuff through Ga, a lot of these streams look like a black snake laid them out. You should get through Hells Gate on high tide, some say there is skinny water there when low.

It's at Apple waiting for release. The same app works on both iPhone and your iPad at the same time (only have to get it once). Lot's of screen shots at:

Okay you have my interest about this, as well as Turtleboats trip comments. At the cost of an IPad with what appears to be fairly good charts, I like it. Remember folks NOAA, and other chart distributors even disclaims the use of their charts for safety reasons.

I am guessing the IPad has built in GPS, I admit to not knowing much about the Ipad, but I liked what I saw on your blog. if you would not mind and to avoid any conflicts, would you PM me some more information about this application

Thanks

Howard

Is there some other application one can download to get "Active Captain" to work on an ITouch or IPhone. It comes up saying I need FlashPlayer, but it will not install it , States not available for this device.

Thanks

Bought the app for the iPad and am updating Active Captain data now...

Turtle,

Apple should give you an iPad for the all the interest you are generating. I am looking at it now. I have Navionics on my iPhone and it has met my every need and performed flawlessly. Is your's a 3G or just straight WiFi????

Navimatics looks interesting and now that it's on sale for what looks like 50% off I will have to pick it up... I believe it has vector charts, how are the charts compared to Navionics as I know you have that app too...

Let me know if you get ActiveCaptian "The interactive Cruise Guide" to work

I have put "Charts & Tides by Navimatics" on both my ITouch and IPhone. Looks pretty good so far

Those green heads.... CURSE THEM... They are relentless and hurt like hell when they bite... Oh those I don't miss from the NJ shore/marshes... I remember when they would bite the pain would only make me concentrate more on killing the darn things!!!!!

Safe Passage and fair weather!

Mike

I am enjoying the Blog, although it is blocked while I'm at work. Any chance you can provide some additional commentary on the price of fuel/marinas as you travel and the amount of time on plane vs trolling each day? and if you took the inside route vs the ocean etc. Your blog would be a nice thing to review before taking a similar trip.

Thanks for sharing.. I know you have a lot to deal with and taking the time to post this day to day is very cool...

We have done Fla to NC. It's a great trip. Watch for very skinny water in Ga. try for higher tides if possible thru there. If you get to the Wrightsville Beach area. We are in Harbour Village Marina, 14 miles north. They have transient slips. We will keep an eye out for you.

Those Green Head Flies, from the video, I think that is what we call Horse Flies, they bite, they leave, you bleed, and you hurt. I have looked up in the bimini and it was covered with them in no wake zone, short wot run when I get out to get rid of them, I use the same term Mike does.

Yo Mike

Why are you running Charleston Harbor after dark? When I last went through there, I couldn't find my way through there in the middle of a sunny day.

Man you are makeing some time Mike!!! How fast does that thing run?

I made it in one piece. How? I have no idea. That was probably the most stressful 2 hours I've ever boated. I'm drinking heavily right now. I'll post more later.

sounds like a great adventure. Good luck and I look forward to follow you. Keep her off the ground.
