Somebody please tell me this is not common! We pulled up to the marina, saw a bunch of black smoke, ran down to find out what it was, and there was a boat pushed up against the far bank engulfed in flames. Story I heard on the docks was that they had been pulled up to the gas dock, and noticed smoke, tried to extinguish and failed, so they pushed the boat as far away as possible (thank goodness).

Was there something they possibly did wrong at the gas pump that brought this on? I don't want to do that!!

We saw one drift down our lagoon on fire... It happens, but not very often...

Hard to say what sparked it. Most fires that occur while fueling are started by static electricity.

Scary huh. It was Port Royale. We *almost* went out about that time to head up lake for dinner but got a text saying the marina was basically shut down so not to bother. Out today for a birthday bash. That boat looked to be a sailboat and was moored up over in shallow water by the beach. Sure doesn't happen that often that I'm aware of. Don't know where a sailboat engine may reside but the damage I saw was more midway up midrise... dead square in the middle. Galley, who knows. Hope nobody was hurt.

Yep, Port Royale. We had been out earlier with the kids, then took them home and me and Millzy were heading out for an evening cruise alone (boating = best date nights ever!). They weren't holding boats from going in and out, we still went. PLENTY of gawkers at the opening of the stack docks, though. I heard everyone got off the boat before the flames began, it was still just smoke when they pushed it over.

A man at Holiday filled his holding tank up with gas and it blew, and another man was putting gas in his boat from a gas can, and it blew. Not a good day.
