First aid kit

I've thought about adding an AED.to our boat as well. When we cruise there are times where we are a couple hours from medical care and I am middle age and overweight where heart attack becomes a more significant risk. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but my wife and I have talked about the potential value.
Some ignorant people actually doubt the effectiveness of an AED. After it saved a friend of mines life, a relatively healthy guy, he bought one for each of his relatives. I'm glad there was one there for him when he needed it. His wife and kids are pretty happy about it also... Thankfully the prices have come down on them so more people can have them around.

Agree and don't forget you can hit the "ignore" button if another member has a different point of view.
It's not about a different point of view for me. In addition to talking boats, I see CSR as a place to BS and debate different things like I might do over a beer or three. So like when I'm chilling drinking beer where I don't hang out with psycho left-wing nuts, I don't do it here either... It's kind of like declining an invitation to hang out at a coffee shop in P'Town. Maybe you accept those invitations. Not my thing. Not judging lol

If you review the first 4 posts you'd have to say there's no way this thread should get to where it has. I do sometimes boat with a surgeon. He's going to have to improvise on my boat, I got simple green, rescue tape, buck knife, lots of micro fiber rags, a jump pac, and bandaids.

Don’t forget the phone…

No left winger here, just don't need the safety stuff. What's up with the P-town reference? Not enough safety stuff on board so I'm probably a homo?

You don’t have a vacuum?

Other than the larger kit in the service truck, I have a couple small first aid kits put together for our outdoor activities. One stays in the boat and one in our packs for when we are in the hills. They are kept in a heavy zip-lock and the only thing that kills them are the expiry dates on their contents. Outside of the usual bandaids, gauze and tensors, I've added a few small eye wash bottles, a flashlight, tourniquet, steri-strips and a couple sutures. Of course now, also a pair of cheap reading glasses so I can see what I'm looking at. We are normally in really remote areas with only satellite coverage. The size and weight of the packages make them unnoticeable until something in them is required.
I don't understand why someone wouldn't keep one with them but to each their own. It amazes me how many boats I get on without fire extinguishers, smoke and CO alarms as well.

Nah. You took it the wrong way. I just meant it wasn't a place I'd accept an invite to hang out. I don't think you're a complete left wingnut Masshole lol
As far as the safety stuff, I've never been a member of the safety patrol. Just thought it was odd you'd go after Mike for a med kit. Looks like there's a back story and that's not my biz...

Duck tape or electrical tape will do wonders in a pinch!

All good.

Another dumba$$ thread. Not the concept, but all of the dumb responses.

Surely, everyone should have a first aid kit.....everywhere. I have one at home, in all my cars and in all my boats. I'm also anal about safety. Alls you have to do is THINK ahead.

Never used one for the family. OTOH, some dumb parents that let their kids swim at the launch ramp made us repair a foot torn apart on some glass. Another time I helped people in a car accident.

Just be prepared. Even though you might be smart, the idiots you bring along might be plain stoopid.

Celox granules, blood clot bags/pouches, duct tape, sutures. Especially if diving near sharks.

Henceforth, the med kit will be called the "bandage kit" by me and I should be more likely to maintain it. Others may get the idea as to what it contains.

Besides the usual first aid kit, we carry this

James Bond used one to get back to the gambling table after a strong drink.

Thanks for sharing your insights, and I hope you continue to have safe and enjoyable boating experiences!

Your insights on a boat first aid kit are valuable for anyone spending time on the water. Being prepared is key, and you've highlighted the importance of having essential items on hand to address injuries promptly.
