Finally, a Bahamas trip!

I wish I could post awesome pictures and tall tales of a great trip to the northern Abacos but we decided to postpone the trip because of the weather disturbance that went through the Bahamas and South Florida last weekend. We have a back up plan (of course) which is a new departure date of 9/26/14. We hope this new date will be good and the same invite goes out to everyone, join us if you can.

Randy,

Were you able to make the trip? Would love to hear all about it if you did. Pics?

it came right down to the wire but we just didn't feel the weather was going to be good enough to go all that way. The seas in the gulf stream were at least 3 feet and the seas on the ocean side of the Abacos were 4 feet. Not only that but there was rain all over the place. this weekend would have been perfect but we all had something already scheduled. We will keep watch and when we see a window, we'll take it.

I will post pics and videos as soon as I get back.

So is there a cut off point where the seas are generally not favorable to make the crossing? I understand that winter is a tough time to cross because of the northerly wiinds and the Gulf Stream runs from the south creating rough seas...When is the earliest opportunity to make the crossing? April?

Cod, You can make the crossing year round. It all depends on the weather and how long the window stays open to come back or if you can wait or fly back if weather does not cooperate. The fall is a great time for the Bahamas. Its alot of peoples favorite time. That 500 of yours would love the cool
beautiful waters of the Bahamas! JC
IMHO the nicest etc... crossing is June-August give or take a month or two.

Reservations made for Old Bahama Bay June 20 - 24 2015. I am pretty sure we will leave from Lake Worth inlet. This will be my first crossing and I am totally excited about it. We were going to take our 31' Fountain Sportfish across but I just traded a vintage jet Boat for a really nice 1987 Sea Ray Pachanga 32 so I might take it instead. I don't plan on any fishing this first trip although I am sure I will do some Pole Spearing and lots of snorkeling etc.... Anyone have any tips on the crossing? Old Bahama Bay seems like a pretty nice place to stay and customs is right there also. It will be myself, wife and out daughter so its basically a get away trip for fun and adventure.

Hi Daniel - it sounds like a great trip. There is a sticky at the top of the Southeast Forum entitled "Guidelines for going to and from the Bahamas". This guide will provide some information regarding the crossing and other information that will help you. The version that is posted on this site is the first version, if you PM me, I will send you the latest version. OBB is a nice place to visit, a nice marina with amenities but not allot to do there.

let me know if I can provide any other information.
