Hi Guys,

I'm a little new to this and so is my Admiral. Apart from forgetting to pull the fenders in after slipping off the berth, (a joint oversight that we both noticed once on the plane), the Admiral has had difficulty tying the fenders back on again when berthing. That is she either ties them too high or too low and is fearful of dropping one in the tide while easing down the marina (wouldn't like to catch a stray rope and fender in the prop!). I have fender baskets on the bow rail but frankly they reduce visibility unacceptably so I don't use them. I thought about a stainless steel carabena attached to a pre determined length of rope on the fender....just clip it to the railing coming in, unclip going out. But will that chaff the gelcoat? What do you guys do or suggest? What is best practice.

Thanks

Terry

I have adjustable plastice hooks that attach to the railings for the fenders which makes adjusting them a breeze... I think I bought mine at west marine... you can also get them on iboats for $8.00. I'm getting good use of this video, lately! Not my best performance, but it does serve it's intended purpose to show a bunch of styles. These are all readily available, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them.

You can skip about half way through to the rail-mount versions. I don't recall, offhand, if the type Rod has is in there, or not. But the ones he has are nice hangers, as well.

I've used these for years and love them. You adjust the length of the line one time and don't have to adjust again unless you want to. They run about $7-$9 per pair on ebay.

I like the second to last one on Peter's video.

+1, however, my friggin' rails are 1 1/4 and none of the really nice molded hangers fit well.

Thanks Guys.
I think that solves my problems in a heartbeat. I liked the nylon one that clipped to the rail. It seems to me that firstly, I would see if it was still there before we got up on the plane, and secondly if we did overlook it, I think it would keep the fender from departing the boat.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.:smt038

I bought some cheapo fenders and tied them to my slip. This way, we never deploy our on-board fenders unless we are tying up somewhere else. Saves a lot of headache coming and going from our home slip.

same here, fenders on the dock, i bought from underwoods wholesale on e-bay.Dont want to get my polyform covers dirty.
