Greetings all. I recently acquired a 1992 270 Sundancer. Love everything about the boat, except the fact that it doesn't have AC. I'm trying to ascertain where Sea Ray would have factory installed a unit, as well as the recommended size. I'm thinking that 6000-10000 BTU would work.

There is a storage locker on the port side of the mid berth that seems to be a perfect location. Is this where the factory installed AC was located? There is also a large screwed down plywood cover in the center of the mid berth. Not sure whats under there, as I haven't remover the cover yet. If anyone has the same vintage/model boat with factory AC, I sure would appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!!

Yes I had a 93 290 basically was the same boat, it was located under the forward dinette seat. My buddy had the same year 270 as you and it was located in the same spot. You lose some storage but keeping cool out weigh's the lost storage!Sorry don't remember the BTU's:(

Thanks sir, appreciate the response. Just for clarity, do you mean the area under the V berth cushion in the center? My boat does not have a dinette per se. Just a table that pops up or down depending on weather its configured for sleeping or eating. I know the older 268 had a "regular" dinette on the port side with 2 bench seats. My boat does not have that setup.

My previous boat had the AC unit under the V Berth. It was a good spot due to loads of space there but it was a bit noisy at night.

So when the table is up what do you sit on? Also no i don't mean the V berth!

Akwalker, I had a '91 270 that I added AC and gen to. I have the original install plans for the ac with specs. I'm happy to send them to you and give you some pointers on what I did if you like. The ac goes under the aft bench seat if you have the dinette option and the ducting is routed in that closet just under the breaker panel as others have stated.

I would be interested in seeing those plans Cocktail.. Do you have a thread somewhere of the work you did?

Here you go. Note the through hull scoop placement is on a reinforced pad in the engine room. 9K btu unit was enough for me. Back then I went with mermaid because they sold a kit. I really like the marinaire units now. Make sure you have a plenum in the closet for the discharge ducting.

Keep in mind the 92 270 is not the same boat or cabin interior as a 91 270. The 91 270 DA became the 290 DA in 1992.
True, 90'-91' 270da and 92'-93' 290da are the same size and layout. The '92 270 is a smaller boat, prior to 92 it was the 250da.
