Face Shields..

Woody, you don't get it. :) Canada's numbers would be much better if they weren't next to the US. It's all our fault. Everything is. Happily, though, it's not really OUR fault, it's Bush's. And Trump's.

Without us, Canada would be in the best possible shape in every way. /sarc
Hey besides that.....they're really doing even better than the numbers make it seem. You see, they have old people, migrant workers, and a big city in Canada. Well the virus got a bunch of those people. If it wasn't for that their death toll would be much lower yet.

I hope you understand better now, I wouldn't BS about something like this, I got that info straight from an actual Canadian.:)

Did you know that Canada also celebrates a Thanksgiving?
American Thanksgiving is thankful for the Pilgrims.
Canadian Thanksgiving started off as thankful for the crops at harvest time, but actually it is thankful that we’re not American!
Thats from a actual Canadian.

Some people say you invented thanksgiving because it’s before ours being it’s in October.... the truth is you copied us 11 months later :)
Did you notice what BEH did in this post? He used one of these !!! What does that mean in Canadian?:p

I will. You are partly correct and partly wrong. We are constantly trying to control the spread of viruses by adopting behaviours that reduce the risk of transmission when vaccines are not available. Here are some examples:

Genital and oral herpes
HIV
Norovirus
Rotavirus
Hepatitis (yes there are vaccines, but not everyone gets them)
Hemorrhagic viruses like Ebola, dengue, yellow fever
Rabies
If you're familiar with American History, you'll know there was a severe smallpox epidemic raging in North America around the time of the Revolutionary War. The puny human George Washington recognized the threat to his already-beleaguered Continental Army and instituted rigid quarantine measures to protect the soldiers from infection. Controversially at the time, he also had the army inoculated with the smallpox virus starting with himself and his wife. These measures prevented defeat by the British and without them the United States wouldn't exist. Regrettably, the invasion of Canada took place before he took command and the leadership of that army wasn't as savvy. The invasion failed largely as a result of troops dropping due to smallpox, otherwise Creekwood and BEH might be U.S. citizens and we would have to dump on them for something other than being Canadian.

The joy of charts... you can make them say what ever you want

So just what is the truth?

The truth is that humans must adjust to a new reality there is a new virus that we cannot control. It is going to affect 80% of us, and that we cannot control.

We can do our best to keep it from nursing homes and the weak and frail. If some want to hide and prolong the inevitable they can do that as well. But unless you plan on forever giving up social interaction it is a part of life.

The sooner people rationally accept The reality of this virus the sooner we can have rational discussions pertaining to it. As long as nearly half the people think we’re going to have a vaccine in a few weeks or months or that hiding in their homes will keep them from getting it, we cannot have rational discussions.

To the Libs... you can’t handle the truth! Which is all the data is lies.

Actually, the piece is about how good the data is, especially in Florida which the author is the most familiar with. The author is giving good advice, which is to be informed about the source and quality of the data, be patient because it takes time to get it right, and to be skeptical of headlines (advice El Capitan should take to heart).

I don't think the truth is known as yet since knowledge of the facts is being discovered.

Rather than a vision of the truth, I think it's more accurate to say you have an opinion that the virus cannot be controlled. I may have missed them, but I don't recall seeing any facts presented to support your opinion. Rather, this thread and others have numerous examples of successful (at least to date) Public Health efforts to control the current virus and citations from history as well. These include quarantine, hygiene and social distancing (which are ancient strategies), masking (which dates back as far as the 1918 flu pandemic) and even face shields where needed. Contact tracing and isolation are succeeding around the globe, even in less developed countries.

I think the current situation in the U.S. provides a great lesson. About a month ago, it looked fairly dicey, with increased hospitalizations and then deaths following spikes in numbers of cases across the Sun Belt. Since then, every state either requires masks, encourages them, or allows localities to impose mandates. Now the numbers are starting to come down, dramatically in some states. It's obvious that these measures have made the difference.

So far, the news about vaccines is promising. I agree it's too soon to tell, but also too soon to give up. People will form their own opinions of the risks associated with the virus. The overwhelming majority will do whatever it takes, and for as long as it takes, to avoid the risk as they see it. That includes foregoing social interactions.

In my view, your opinion is defeatist and allows for the likelihood for several million excess deaths, just in the U.S. But, you're certainly welcome to it. I don't understand why everyone else has to adopt your opinion in order to have a dialog.

Let me distill your post in a few words, “don’t tell me reality, I can’t handle it!“

Truly illogical, if they could control viruses why don’t they control HIV? They can only treat it. The list could go on.

Please stop pretending humans can control it.

Timely article just published today:
I witnessed the horror of HIV 30 years ago. Here's how we can conquer a pandemic
"Even without a cure or a vaccine for HIV, we have succeeded in bringing the rates of infection and death lower than previously imaginable through life-saving medications that also prevent transmission. This is because we demanded and helped to create a sustained, long-term, science-based approach to addressing HIV."
