A few of the guys were talking about heading out to the Exumas this summer. We thought we would post the idea and see who would be interested. We figure the minimum time frame would be 7-10 days.

These islands are absolutely beautiful and the trip is well worth it.

No dates have been set and anyone can go. Please post your questions, comments and thoughts.

    Randy,

A damn fine idea. I've been mapping out a trip for the end of July first of August. Bimini to Nassau and south to the Exumas. Let me know what time you're thinking about.

Hi Tom, glad to see your interested! Nothing is really planned yet but our initial thinking is......

get to the Exumas quickly to maximize the time there (head straight to Nassau from Florida, then on to Exuma the next day).

hit the top of the chain (Sail Rocks), then head down to locations such as Warderick, Compass, Staniel, Sampson.

swing over to Green Cay, then back to Nassau.

what kind of trip were you thinking about?

I've never been there so I'm just making stuff up. Nassau in a day is fine. Your time in the Exumas maps pretty close to what I was thinking. What's the time window you're thining about?

    Odyssey,
I think i could throw my hat into that ring. I would also prefer the Florida to Nassau - Nassau to Exumas schedule.

Guys, We hope to be there as well. We have done this trip 3 times. We always stop at Cat Cay check in and fill back up on fuel. Then Nassau if weather holds. If not duck into Chub Cay. Nassau stop is always The Atlantis. Pull out fuel up across bridge at Texaco then to Rose Island turn to Allans Cay. Normans, Wardrick Wells, Big Major, Staniel Cay, Sampson Cay ETC... Fuel can be got at Highborne, Sampson, Staniel. Mid July is PERFECT. Summer weather systems are in full force ie( Calmer Winds ie: South, East some West and most important little North). If you have children they will love this trip! I could go on for hours. We will be going thru Exumas and out Islands God Willing. I will get some of my notes up this spring such as Good anchoring spots etc... You will really enjoy this trip. Only in the Bahamas can my 450DA be a dingy for some of these boats that travel there. You might want to consider a couple of days at Atlantis if you have never been there. JC

I would love to do that trip, but I don't think my gas 320 would make it. What type of mileage is it between stops in the Exumas for fuel (gas)? Just thought I would get some information about one day going there once (if) we ever upgrade.

Tom, Your 320 would be fine. Our first trip to Staniel Cay and back was in a Glacier Bay 2685. You would stop at Bimini or Cat Cay then if needed Chub Or Andros. Then Nassau to Highborne, Sampson or Staniel Cay and reverse course back home. The 320 would do great. With our GB we had (6) 7 gallon fuel jugs also. Never used them except when we anchored at Big Major Spot for 3 days. Again, The 320DA would be fine. Good Luck, JC

Well if JC says it can be done with a gasser, I'm in. I'll just need to make sure of the distance between gas stops.

All right Guys, Its approximately 42.7nm from Fowey Rocks to Gun Cay or 41.9nm from Miami to Bimini. Then about 60nm to Northwest Channel. From there you can go about 13 miles or so to Chub or continue another 49.3nm to Nassau. From Nassau(Porgee Rocks) to
Allens Cay is 28.6nm. Highborne Cay is right there for fuel if needed. From Allens/Highborne its about 25nm to Wardrick Wells(Exumas Land and Sea Park). About another 23nm to Staniel Cay Area. Fuel can be gotten at Bimni, Cat Cay, Chub Cay, Nassau, Highborne Cay, Sampson Cay, Staniel Cay. Longest run is about 130nm or so from Bimni area to Nassau area. Water can be gotten at all those fuel stops but its .30 to .50 cents a gallon. No telling about fuel but i would appropriate at $5.00 a gallon to be on safe side. Marinas at Bimni or Cat, Chub, Nassau, Highborne, Sampson, Staniel Cays. You cannot miss Atlantis, Allans, Exumas Land and Sea Park, Compass Cay, Sampson Cay, Big Major Spot, Thunderball Cay, Staniel Cays. They are a must do for a varity of reasons. The more children the better, they will have a blast. Will update more info if needed. Also the Marinas are very, very costly. Figure 3 to 4 dollars a foot to be safe. Its probably going to be a little less just saying. JC

In my post above I wasn't saying yours was a dup. What I was trying to say was thanks for posting the detail. I was sending on a blackberry and thought it had gone multiple times as the network hung up.

In any event, thanks for putting the distances up.

Ray - looks like you will be OK! We'll just have to plan the correct route.
