Exuma trip this summer?

maybe our next step should be to determine how long the trip will be, then the best time to go. If some folks don't have the time to go to all the places, they could return home when they need too. I would like to structure a trip where everyone who's interested can go.

Getting there and back back will take 4 days total. Even if we only stay 1 night at each location, the minimum number of days will probably be about 10.

here are the places I personally want to visit...

Sail Rocks (anchorage)
Warderick (anchorage)
Compass (marina)
Staniel (marina)
Green (anchorage)

All who are interested need to start throwing dates out.
As far as length of trip Hansens idea of meeting in Nassau on a Sat. or Sun. do the Exumas and end in Nassau on a Sat. or Sun. would make it the most flexible.

Good idea.

Also, just to throw out another idea...... boat(s) could be left at Nassau and folks could fly back home if work is a concern. The flights to Nassau from FLL are inexpensive. That way, you could fly back in a week and either bring the boat home or continue the vacation.

Option 1 -- Maybe leave Nassau on Sat. June 26th or Sun. June 27th, then return to Nassau either Sat. Jul 3 or Sun. Jul 4th, Since the 4th is on a Sunday, I imagine some people might not be working on Monday the 5th, so this date pattern could give some people more time. Those who want to spend more time between here and Nassau could leave Florida earlier or return later.
Option 2 -- Another option would be to leave Nassau 1 week later (July 3rd) and be in the Exumas somewhere for the 4th and return the following weekend.
Option 3 -- The best option would be to leave tomorrow, weather permitting, and come back in a year or two.

For me personally, it is difficult to be away from the office during the last week of any month. Other than that, I should be open.

OK, so here is a possible itinerary.....

Nassau to Sail Rock (north end of Exuma), 40 miles. Stay 1 night on anchor

Sail Rock to Warderick Wells, 48 miles. Stay 2 nights on anchor

Warderick to Compass, 14 miles. Stay 1 night in marina

Compass to Staniel or Sampson, 4 - 7 miles. Stay 2 nights in marina

Staniel to Green Cay, 45 miles. Stay 2 nights on anchor

Green to Nassau, 75 miles

The date to leave Nassau is open at this time depending on available dates for all cruisers.

Please let me know what you think.

I am still iffy, so don't make your dates just on me.

Here is our suggestion:

Staying the night at Bimini the 3rd and Nassau the 4th would give us a little more time to get to the east coast. We are much more flexible getting back to the Cape. Say the 13th or 14th.

That wasn't very nice, Jack.
It seems the first half of July looks pretty good for a few of us. Might be a few issues on exact timing for when and where to meet up, but it would be difficult to expect every boat will be able to plan the exact same itinerary. Maybe a few of us meet in Bimini, others join in Nassau and others somewhere in the Exumas.
Let's hear from everyone reading this thread so we can start a list of who might be making this trip. Seems like a great trip -- the more the merrier.

here is an overview of one possible route.....

Randy,
Looks good. Thanks for taking the time to plot it out.

It appears with Ken (can't be down till the 3rd or 4th) and Randy (last week of month is bad ) the weekend of the 4th would be best. If we go with this time frame as a start people could start planning.

As Mike said earlier Captains could come later and meet up or leave earlier if they had to. At least it's a start.

Hi Tom - the program is called nRoute and is made by/for Garmin to interface with their hand held units. I installed the program in my laptop, plot the course at home then take the laptop with me on the boat, plug it into the handheld mounted on the bridge and it will give me real time info (speed, course, on track, ETA, etc) just like a chartplotter that is built in. It is extremely detailed and very accurate, much more than my built in Raymarine unit.

Dates - July is better than June for me. Unfortunately the July 4th weekend is committed though it looks popular with many others. Any time after the 4th is a go.
