Extra Water??

A water tank in the e.r. is going to warm up when running. ...

Ken,

I guess you weren't aware that there are several models that come with water tanks in ER from the factory. A first hand experience and example is 2001 240DA. The tank was right in front of the engine. But, yes, you're right the water gets a little warmer but nothing that would affect anything you'd be using the water for. So, I'd say this is not an issue at all.

I stopped with the dish washing. It is a pain in the boat anyway and does use a ton of water. On trips we use the coffee cups you can buy at target like Starbucks has and the thicker/stronger paper plates. At most all I have to clean now is the grill and grilling gear. No more doing dishes, no more using up water, and saves valuable hard earned fun time from being destroyed washing dishes in a boat sink. Granted it isnt classy to use paper plates and whatnot but I'm not in an 85 footer here either.

This never was and an option for us as we cook meals onboard. Even when using paper plates (and we do quite often) there's just a lot more other stuff that neads cleaning. But, I have to say that dishwashing is not what's taking too much of the water. With family of 4 everything adds up, especially showering. My crew knows how to conserve water, but I'm also trying to be reasonable with them as we're on the boat to enjoy the time and relux.

Under the forwars bed, that's the right place. I'm with Alex!
You can use a flexible tank or build it in stainless steel as I did. Just be sure to fix it properly or it will destroy your bow...
Mine holds some 65 gallons and I fill it only when I'm planning to stay a few days without touching land.

Ummmm... What do you mean "destroy your bow"?

It's a good idea but I'm not sure it would justify the cost.

Do you know what the water maker installed system cost?
When I was talking with the owner of the boat yard that did our equipment installations one of the things we discussed was a water maker. The installed cost for one capable of supplying water for the two of us was going to be around $10K. I don't recall the specs but it would have had a large enough capacity to keep us going indefinitely when we were in salt water.

He said that it would be very expensive to keep it purged (that's not the correct term and I can't recall the proper term) when we were not in salt water, and it is unusable in fresh water.

He suggested adding additional fresh water storage. Lots cheaper, and we can use it in fresh and salt water areas.

There is no way the unit I have on my boat cost $10k, it is slow at making water but I make water when I see the tank is running down. You can make water over night and fill the tank back up. You don't need one to supply water for use, just make it to refill the tank albeit slow. I will get pricing but no way is any where near that price, I would guess about $1500, not installed.

A water tank in the e.r. is going to warm up when running. You could always resort to drinking more beer. Check out this site. http://www.water-storage-tank.com/portable_tanks.html

Slip one of these babies under your fwd. bed and eliminate the need for a custom shaped tank. Connect it up to a separate pump to a dedicated faucet in the head and galley and your drinking water problems are solved.

Now those are quality tanks. Thanks for the suggestion. :smt038

Looks like an estimate I had in mind is in line. I was thinking that installed system might run around $5K. So, if the unit is about $3K the install can easily run another $2K.

I didn't get pricing for adding a tank, but I would guess that it may run around $1K installed. If I had to choose I think I would go with the tank, but this is based on my needs.

I wish I had such a dilemma. It's not often I hear of there being surplus space available in an engine room....I sure wish I had more space there. If I had to decide between giving up accessibility to my engine at maintenance time or taking a longer shower....I think I might opt for a timer on the shower to conserve water and keep my engine space as clear as possible.

But that's me.

That water maker looks interesting. And it appears anyone with some basic plumbing skills should be able to install one.

Hellman,
A quick search actually showed WM to have the lowest price by a few hundred $$!!! That was a surprise!!

Amen brother!! I get dizzy when I look into my ER!! On my old 260 I could move around and reach anywhere. On this boat I have to limber up for 45 minutes just to check the oil !!!

I wonder what I was drinking when I typed that? :wow::wow:

Before I got booted off BOC there was a used water maker over there for sale. :smt001

EDIT, Never mind.
