Hey all,

I pulled the engines out of the boat over the weekend and I’m sure glad I did. Talk about finding some goofy things. First thing that comes to mind were the power cables on both starters. Both starters had two power cables attached to them. The nuts were holding the cables on with less than a full thread and it didn’t even have a lock washer on it.

Couple of other questions.

First, should the steering ram be parallel to the steering arm link? I question this because the ram rubs on the link washer at some point in its travel and to me; common sense says it should be parallel with the steering link. This is a repair/addition/fabrication made by a repair shop as I have receipts for the work preformed.

Second, another repair shop job, the Gen Set exhaust hose was plumbed into the (out) side of the muffler and the hose going overboard was coming out of the (In) side. Totally bass akwards as I understand it. I looked online and couldn’t find anything that said it was okay to plumb it backwards. Am I missing something or is this okay?

Also, for the other 300 owners, where do you have your Gen Set muffler mounted? I would like to mount it on the port side aft of the fuel tank but have not looked to see if it sits low enough.

Is anybody interested in info/pictures of the transformation of the engine room as I go along? I had not planned to write up a thread for it but I will if there is enough interest. I should probably check into the 'Hole in the water club" soon to see if I will qualify with this adventure.

Typical, first pic lose the steel plate, second pic raise the steering ram up about 2 inches. even with the link.3rd pic, increase the spread away from the steering link. the black mounting plate allows the cylinder to "gimbal" in the housing

Oh, anytime you install bolts on steering and such the nuts go on the bottom. Sucks to have the nut loosen and have the bolt drop out the botom

Amen!!!

Makes you feel good that you pulled those suckers doesn't it?? Now you can get to and see all of the things that were "skimped on" by the previous owner. Some will be easy to fix and others may cost a bit, but in the end you'll have a better knowledge of your own bilge AND you'll know things were done RIGHT! Get it all put back together and meet us on the water July 17! LOL!! I hope you are close by then!

By the way, Where that metal plate is bolted, is where the genny/water muffler goes.

Soooo tempting!!! Would have to thrash to get it all done and hope for no surprises.

Thanks speakrdude, my muffler was originally mounted forward of the steering linkage. You can see the hose dangling behind the linkage in the upper pics. The Genset is on the port side forward of the engine tucked under the floor and the exhaust hose snakes back between the engines on the floor. I was looking at options for freeing up floor space as I have to stand on 4x4 blocks straddling the exhaust hose while working between the engines and I didn't know if they were put in other locations.

I have a 340 DB and would love to see how you got the motors out. I know I will eventually have to pull mine.

I just made a boom for my forklift and plucked them right out. I was gonna say, if you weren't so far away, bring her by and we'll pluck um out too.

Ok so i would have to use a crane or boom that would extend into the cabin. That would be alot easier than an a frame trolly system. So you completely remove the sliding door then it comes up thru the hatch?
