I have a 2002 Searay 200BR, with the mercruiser 5.0. The issue i am having is the motor will not run over 3000 rpm and it dies quite frequently. I have replaced the fuel filter and water seperator, that pretty much taps out my knowledge of boats, if anyone has anyother suggestions please post.

Well... the front is called the bow... and the back is called the stern.... and the thingy that spins around is called a prop. And you should not own a boat with Sub-Zero appliances.

wkearny can fill you in on the rest.

Welcome to the Hazing portion of your life here.

What other service have you done?
Also, put your boat info in your signature

When I bought the boat all of the routine maintence had been done, thanks for filling me in on what the front and back are it really helped alot, very useful.

try not to take gary seriously. he's hard on new folks in a ball-buster kinda way.

are you fuel injected or carb? does the engine start right back up after stalling? it is helpful to put boat and engine specifics in your signature.

Believe it or not, some of us don't approve of Gary's antics. But once you let the cat steal a little milk............

The Mods should have dealt with his bullying a long time ago. Ignoring poor behavior encourages the idiots. Oh well, the monster they create will eventually bite them back one day.

Dies, as in instantly and all power is lost too or a long painful death that no matter what you do you can't keep her running? Lots of places and things we can all speculate on, but we need more information! Routine maintenance to some means fix whatever is broken! To others, it means replacing everything every year! So help us out, what has been done recently?

Gary is just poking fun at you because so many people come in and ask a question. It's usually something boat related and similar to "what should I get my wife for Christmas?" hoping we can fix their boat. It's not always that easy.

Jrob5151 posting your boat, motor is very important for folks to give you serious answers. We (Moderators) posted this in the welcome area of our forum. Please give it another shot at your question with as much information for someone to give you good information.

Thank you

Seems Gary you are winning over hearts and minds one at a time:grin: Another fan I see:thumbsup:

Considering the Sub-Zero comment... seems to me that Gary is poking fun at himself.

Now to fix that engine (engines typically convert chemical energy into work, where as motors usually covert electrical potential into work - yes, a nit) it would be helpful to describe what is happening under what circumstances. For instance, when you run it up to 3k, does it just sit there or is it sort of surging, like it's trying, but then cuts back and tries again?

I take it that it's dying at idle... but does it die when it's in neutral, just putting along in gear, or at the instance that you engage the gear?

Wow... I completely missed this post. Shame on me.

So I need a clarification on the rules here. If someone came out and called you an "idiot" and "monster" pre-new-CSR rules, is it ok to call them an "assmunch" post-new-CSR rules or would that be a violation? Would it be "OK" to use the word substitution I pointed out earlier and just call them a "butt" and people would just know what I mean? There should be some sort of "grandfathering" involved... please clarify.

PS: I don't milk cats and there goes my reputation and green dot.

Gary,

While I see what you are trying to say, the rules were put in place that day and they are to be followed from that day. You will notice I did not go back and amend any of your old post. This is one of the reasons we came up with the rules we could see that there needed to be some. Hope that is the clarification you were looking for. Thanks

Wesley

Actually, the rules were put into place, executed, [/b]and then posted. Not quite the same thing.

Not enough information to diagnose the problem. No details about the conditions, what engine, or any behaviors exhibited by the engine. Based upon that, it's likely that the original poster probably does not have any mechanical skills.

Go back to your dealer where a tech with run the boat, make a diagnosis, and repair it.

Best regards,
Frank C

Hello all, i wandered across this forum while trying to research a similar problem so i thought i would join and see if anyone could help...

I have a 1999 210 bowrider with a Mercruiser 5.0 with thunderbolt V and an alpha 1 drive. I can start the boat as long as i am giving it good throttle out of gear. The boat hovers around 2k rpm to start then when i try to idle back the engine sputters out and dies, i can sometimes avoid by throttleing back up.

So far i have changed my water seperator which is spotless, and i have recently done the cap and rotor. After i change the cap and rotor the motor ran ok for a while but the next time i went out i had the same problems. I was planning on changing the wires and plugs tonight. does anyone have any other suggestions before i get a tow so i can haul the boat out and bring it to a mechaninc. Thank you in advance

Please start your own thread next time.

I edited my aswer.

Thunderbolt V = carbs so you do not have a IAC as far as I know. Or does it? I am reading online about the Thunderboldt V and its not clear. Yes on carbs but it also says "computerized engine-management benefits of fuel" so who knows, you may have a IAC.

IAC = IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. Push (or pull) the knob to take the boat out of gear, using the throttle basically you are doing the IAC’s job. Go back to straight up on the throttle and the IAC does it for you.

Edit II: Yeap, you have a IAC. Start with that. Sorry for the back and foth.

I searched on your engine and I believe you have a carb. If this is correct...What does the exhaust look like when running? If it looks like a rich fuel mixture smoke and smells from excess fuel. Have you looked at the choke butterfly in the carb? (It should be an electric choke.) If it is stuck closed you could be way off on the air/fuel ratio. OR Carb problem leaking excess fuel, could be flooding the engine problem.
