I'm upgrading my dinghy and adding a 15 hp O/B which now makes the engine too heavy to lift on and off the dinghy routinely. My boat an 35' aft cabin is setup with Weaver davits on the swim platform and I want to keep those. I've been told a 15hp O/B is a little heavy for the Weaver Lever system so would like to consider installing a single davit that would allow me to remove the engine from the dinghy while it's hooked up to the weaver davits and still in the water.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to do this or who makes a suitable davit?

the Sea Wise system seems really nice, however it is very pricy. But it does not look to difficult to fabricate if you did it yourself.

St Croix has what you are looking for I believe they call it their "little crane" there website is www.davit.com they also have various brackets to store it

Least expensive but a high end quality product is Garhauer Marine engine davit lift:
http://garhauermarine.com/catalog_process.cfm?cid=41 click on the photos in the url and you can see exactly what they look like... you'll be pleased. I have had mine now for 3+ years... no problem, no rust...

The davit comes with the line and all connections including a rail mount and a base mount to allow 360* turning of the vertical post. Completely removable with the exception of the ball base mount if you want it out of the way... Can't beat the price either...

This is what they look like in real life:

Thanks guys, both the Garhauer Marine engine davit and the little crane should be suitable. At the price they are selling for it would not make sense to try and fabricate one myself.

However I just talked to a local dinghy dealer and he said the 15 hp Yamaha should not be too heavy for the weaver leaver system. I'm going to look at a 10' Avon with 10 hp Yamaha listing on craigslist this weekend so I may not have to go with the davit system anyway.

I relied to your earlier post about the weaver leaver system and the fact that I really like it. I have a 15hp Merc hanging on mine without issue. My 15hp is a 2 stroke though and the Merc 8hp, 9.9hp and 15hp are all built on the same platform and all weigh the same. That's why I went with the 15hp.

Russ.
