There is a neutral switch that tells the computer when the shifter is moved out of neutral. It’s a 2 wire switch with the little white button that pops out when you shift to forward or reverse.
Usually when that goes bad, you can still shift into gear but rpm will be limited to 1200 and there will be a constant beeping.
Great feedback, this is NOT my case at all. I can switch to Forward with no issues and then to neutral with no issues. intermittently, every other time I switch to reverse, I get the shift error. The puzzling part is sometimes it does shift into reverse, and I still get the error, and sometimes it does not shift into reverse, and I get the error.
I was able to cruise at various RPMs (3500 & 3700) with no issues.
