Drone on...

I keep an index of my passwords on flash drive. Seems I'm forever changing them on key accounts.
I was hacked one time but my credit was so bad they actually deposited into my account. Must have felt bad for me.

I think you all know this but it is worth reminding ourselves ....... Cos of it gets just one CSR member to think again about what they do in cyber space over "buying season" it is worth the posting time.

Thanks for posting that. I am befuddled at how sloppy people are online with personal information, pictures, potential slanderous material and just plain dumb crap that they should be embarrassed about. Facebook is a cancer and I am happy to not be a part of it. Even in light of the publicity this is getting, my own friends and family don’t grasp the seriousness of this stuff, Sony or no Sony.

You are in West Van, so I’m sure have an idea how many independent suppliers, big businesses and Gov departments deal with the film industry in this town. Anything rentable, disposable, edible or blowup-able has been hired at some time. All have production accounts. When a big budget feature is in town for 6-10 months there are 200+ people per day on hire and about 1/3 of them change daily. All have to surrender way too much personal info, including, in some cases, passport info. Each and every one of them in turn have buckets full of other contacts that can be harvested. Recently, including The Interview, which was shot here, there have been 19 other direct Sony films and uncountable numbers of Sony affiliated productions; all with massive amounts of people data. Same goes for every bank, department store, food chain, school, massage parlor and worst of all, sloppy bureaucracies.

The mother load is the credit reporting industry, and they have been hacked. They have your most sensitive data and sell it.

If you EVER wire money, do not wire from emailed instructions without verbal confirmation. Why? Hackers monitor (often by an app or program) hacked emails waiting for any reason you may be wiring money, with home purchases being the most common. They will then intercept the wire instructions and alter or replace them to have the money wired to their account. No way to get it back, your fault as the bank sent it to the place you instructed. They have been known to monitor accounts for months. So just call the original sender to verify the information before you wire money.
