And you guys are worried about some pesky little drone peekin’ over your poopdeck…

I just received notice that because "Sony Pictures Entertainment (“SPE”) experienced a significant systems disruption on Monday, November 24, 2014 (and) SPE has determined that the cause of the disruption was a cyber attack.” (and learned that) “the security of certain personally identifiable information about its current and former employees may have been compromised.”

Now, in order to be enrolled in a 12 month identity protection service provided by SPE we have to give them even more personal information.

So, you boys go play with your Berettas and drones, I’ve got a N Korean knockin’ at my door.

I'm selling hats that will protect you and your pet for. $12.99 & $4.99

As nasty as this thing is, I don’t believe Sony should have pulled the pin on the movie.
Why surrender so easily?

Everyone who has ever received a cheque from, worked for, sold to, or in some way communicated digitally with Sony is in their system and now potentially hacked. In this town alone the number of people in their DB is huge and now we’re told anyone we have been in contact with digitally is at risk as well.

Nuke the bastards...

They are China/Russias little snot nose brother so we can't back hand them because we'll pi$$ the communists off.

China and Russia are the reasons there is a North and South, otherwise MacArthur would not have stopped at the 38 parallel.

In searching for some flexible stand for the United States to take, Truman's top advisers became convinced that any crossing of the 38th Parallel by General MacArthur would evoke certain reactions from Russia. The Russians might encourage the Chinese to occupy North Korea, even to commit troops into battle in the hope of fomenting war between the United States and China. In the latter event, the American officials believed, U.N. forces should continue to fight as long as there was a reasonable chance of successfully resisting the Chinese; General MacArthur should be authorized to take appropriate air and naval action against Communist China; and the United States should take the matter to the U.N. Security Council in order to have the Chinese condemned as aggressors.

Sony pulled the plug because they are cowards. Also, they could very easily have been blackmailed into doing it. Figure the hackers could release the scripts of upcoming movies and movies currently in production, super damaging emails, possibly the entire library of Sony movies, etc.

In the future, Sony, and probably the rest of the big studios, will no longer produce movies that could be construed as being anything other than super nice to countries like N.Korea, China, Russia, Middle East, etc. The only time the movies will be critical is when they are sh!tting on America.

I don't think you guys have a very good grasp on being hacked. You can't be hacked if they only have an email address. You might be a lot of spam, but hacked? What are they gonna break into my email address and steal what? Maybe they do have your address and they can send you junk mail or I guess they can come visit you, have a cup of tea with them maybe. Now if they have your cc, ss#, address, drivers license, and such information (not sure why you would give that to Sony anyway) then your are screwed.

I don't know what is going on in this country, but I don't like it, The Guts and Courage once displayed here have evaporated! We are perceived as weak around the globe, and as long as our Gov't continues to cower on the world stage, this type of stuff is going to continue and get worse until we stand back up and become the nation we once were. I love this country, but I really hate to see this liberal agenda dragging this nation down.

Personnel records is the big issue here. All the medical, personal, and business related data. Not to mention the corporate espionage that destroys forward planning and development. I keep all my personal stuff at a minimum on my PC but the company I work for has everything down to my uniform size. All my death benefits, medical and family info can be accessed from there.
Do you have a movie goer’s points awards card? Congratulation they found you.

You got it.
Because Sony and all the other "Producers" are so into "tax credits" they gather very detailed information on ANYONE who works for them. even for an hour. You want a paycheque, you cough up the information. Something we have been fighting for years. Maybe now we have some clout, but I doubt it.

Clooney gets it, I don't see him in a tin foil hat and it is worth posting the link again.

https://deadline.com/2014/12/george...-north-korea-cyberattack-petition-1201329988/

This is it in a nutshell "...press who have the responsibility to be asking themselves: What was important? What was the important story to be covering here? The hacking is terrible because of the damage they did to all those people. Their medical records, that is a horrible thing, their Social Security numbers. Then, to turn around and threaten to blow people up and kill people, and just by that threat alone we change what we do for a living, that’s the actual definition of terrorism."

What’s lost in this and is, in itself scary, is that the theatres are afraid of their own US citizens. Sony cited one of the reasons for pulling the movie was of the risk of a law suit against theatres if someone was killed in a blast.

So, which one of you patriotic folks would be jumping up to do that now?
Anyone hear got Al Sharpton on speed dial?

I think you all know this but it is worth reminding ourselves ....... Cos of it gets just one CSR member to think again about what they do in cyber space over "buying season" it is worth the posting time.

When these hacks happen it is not the fact they have your email that is the issue (I am speaking about Sony customers or suppliers here and not Sony employees).

The main process you have to worry about is called Phishing. 75% of the "connected" population of North America use exactly the same passwords in multiple environments. Meaning they use the same password for a Sony movies account as they do for Facebook ..... As they do for their chase bank account, as they do for CSR (no not you, I know you would never, ever do that). If you have any account with Sony the hackers potentially now have an email, zip code, and the password you have used and do use elsewhere.

Next step - they log into your Facebook, Twitter, target, costco , CSR account ....,.............. Or whatever else allows them to scrape SSN, d.o.b., pet names, sibling names, children, Etc etc. ...... this process is called Spear Phishing and that is where it starts to get really scary.

Each step that is successful gathers Ever more data on you. What is worse is that it is not even completed by humans any more ........ Robots (programs logging thousands of sites to test the credentials they have on you) are used to do the hard work. They do not even have to work hard at being industrious and they can scan every website ...... Including CSR, just to see if they are able to gather one more byte of you.

At some point this data on you gets monetized by either a crook that has enough to empty your bank account .... or by someone collecting data on 10,000 citizens and can sell the catalogue in a cyber black market.

Look at my handle and ask me how I know - I spend a lot of my professional time worrying about my organizations health in this context. The sad fact is I have some very loyal incredibly intelligent employees to protect ...... whose IT security acumen is zero and a lot of work goes into helping them understand this and how their family and the company can be protected from this by their choices.

I do not have an opinion on whether Sony acted right or wrong in their deferral of the launch, I imagine (no facts) that Sony is as competent at IT security is the vast majority of large companies and governments. I also know they have shareholders ( pensions schemes and union held funds not just millionaires) that they have to placate when making their decision.

Korea or mafia ........ That are plain and simple Crooks and thieves in any event as much as they had completed a home invasion and stole every penny you own.

The sad fact is that it is impossible to have 100% immunity to this for any enterprise or government or family - just like it is impossible to have a zero deaths from drink driving or zero fail rate on boat components and aircraft. Unless we remove the items we have grown used to in our life ...... Like the Internet.

It is just yet another version of the species long human pastime of the good v, the bad with each trying to keep one step ahead of each other.
