Hello Boaters! I'm having a hard time deciding how to get the old gas out of the tank. I tried a syphoning hose but it gets to a point where it wont go any further. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm guessing theres about 20-25 gallons remaining in the tank. Also heard of using the gas line right before the carb to make use of the fuel pump and pump it out. Anyone with this experience would be helpful. Thanks Tight Lines!

I just removed my sending unit this morning.
Syphoned some gas from there.
Next batch will be using a primer bulb with 3/8" fuel hose from same location.

I used a hand operated pump from harbor freight. I disconnected the fuel line at the fuel water seperator, ran some 3/8 fuel line up and over the side of the boat To 5 gallon gas can and pumped from there. 60 gallons worth of stroking. And boy were my arms tired . My boat is on a trailer. My fuel didn't smell real bad. I've been burning it in a 50/50 mix in my 87 f250, with fresh gas.

I tried that without the HF pump. The anti syphon valve seemed to be doing its job.

Yea I had to pump it all out because of the anti siphon valve. I wasn't sure where it was located. If I knew, and it was easy, I would have removed it to siphon the gas out. I figured that if I sucked it out through the fuel supply to the engine i would have the best chance to get the most fuel out. After I got the fuel out, I started messing with the sender. When I removed it I could see straight to the bottom. In retrospect it would have been a better idea to siphon it out through there.

I thought of the sender after my tank was on the ground.
Very creepy have one chain around the center width and a couple of straps going with the lenght of the tank.
With the internal baffles it would still try to stand on end having 30+ gals in there.:wow:

Are you getting your carb rebuilt or buying a rebuilt outright?
Your transom must be cleaner then mine. With all the wiring, There's no way I could mount a charger there like yours.

the carb is a rebuilt quadrajet from a place called i-5 components on ebay. It was 280 to the door . He has 1377 sales and 100% feed back. I got it on friday and it looks real good, not like a tomco. If it works as good as it looks we will be good. It has a 1 year warantee. Today I'm putting in the electronic ignition and then the carb, testing in between. We will see how it goes. Good luck on yours.

Dead in the water now. The rotor won't fit into the magnet. od on the rotor is .993", id on the magnet is .867". got to love that and it's sunday, no one answers phones. they are all out on there boats that work:smt021. I'm not going to do the carb until after I do the electronic ignition. That way if there is a problem I'll know which one caused it:smt013.
