Our family regularly spends the night on the hook. Last year we lost our beloved Dalmatian:smt089(what a great dog!!). Because he was a larger, older dog we would drop him off at the in-laws for the weekend.
Now, we have gotten a more boat friendly dog (for a 280)...a 4 month old Jack Russel. We plan to take him with us, but are not sure what the best plan is for letting him do his business while we are on the hook. I'm really not nuts about the idea of waking up to take him to shore, but I'm less excited about the dog stinking up my vacation home.
What does everyone else do??

Your taking your Jack on board? Mine's almost five, and she is way to hyper for me to consider it. She's VERY vocal.

Planning on taking him on our 280 as well--he's not that vocal.

in regards to his doing his busyness. don't know yet

Internet Explorer Wallpaper.JPGWe trained our Golden Retrievers to go on the Swim Platform... We pick it up with a plastic bag then wash down the swim platform... When we anchor near the state park, our dog swims ashore and goes in the woods, swims back and climbs up the ladder... Golden Retrievers are very easy to trian... Above our dog guards our boat and we are at the pool swiming...

Odie, our Corgi does great on the boat and has a 10 hour bladder.... We try not to test it, but we know it's there if needed. We have considered training him to utilize the swim platform, but since we don't spend too many nights on the hook it hasn't been an issue and when we do the dink is an easy run to shore.... That is, when I let him out of the engine room (just kidding).

Our maltese can hold it over night (10 hours sounds about right for them too). We just make sure they get a last minute break and then are the first to get attention in the morning after the coffee is put on. Haven't had a problem yet with them.

We use a wee wee pad and holder frame for our two daschunds. The frame keeps the pad from blowing around, if they drop a deuce we pick it up with some toilet paper and it goes down the vacu flush. They have been using the pads since they were pups so they rarely mess up.

The pad and holder were something that we were thinking about. Looking at the responses, it sounds like that is a good place to start...
thanks to all

We use the swim platform for our Beagle/Jack mix, she does great. She turns two next month. We also dinghy her to shore when needed for a walk.
