This is a pic of the outdrive on my 1976 SRV240 with a Mercruiser 233 and pre-alpha R outdrive. As far as I know, everything's original to the boat.

When I press the "in" button on the 3-button trim control, this is as far as the outdrive will lower. When I press "up" there's a click, but the outdrive doesn't move. When I press "up" and "out" together, the outdrive raises to the trailer position.

My understanding is the bottom 2 buttons on the 3-button trim control are supposed to allow trim adjustment of the outdrive within a safe range for the gimbal, with the third button being needed to raise the outdrive all the way up for trailering.

The boat won't plane. I think part of the problem is prop - a (16 x 13) was on it when I got it, but it also looks to me like the drive isn't lowering all the way.

Am I missing something. with the trim control? Does this look wrong to anyone else?

Thanks for any help.

It looks like more travel for the down/in position is available from the trim rams. If you work the drive in and out does it always stop in the same position? How is the fluid level in the reservoir for the trim pump? What does the fluid look like? Is the drive hitting something stopping it from moving in all the way? This definitely has a bad angle for takeoff.

No … definitely should come down a lot more….. as blaster said look at the trim rams….. you can see the travel marks

I would disconnect the rams from the lower unit and see if the outdrive goes lower. If it does then OK. Next push the down button and see which ram won't go down any more and go from there.

Have you checked the fluid level in the hydraulic pump?

Hey all -- thanks for the welcome and really appreciate the help. I haven't checked the hydraulic fluid yet. I'm having a hard time finding the pump just looking around with the engine cover off. It seems like it should be mounted on the inside of the transom somewhere. Any suggestions on where to look? Maybe I need to take the panels next to the engine off for access?

The pump is nearly always, port side, against transom. Is rather large. Hard to miss. Big black metal thing with a plastic reservoir on bottom. Hoses coming off of it.
