[FONT=&quot]Hello Everyone,
Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Paul my fiancee and I just bought an amazing clean and maintained 1997 240 Sundancer and have it slipped in Greenwich, CT. Been exploring the LI Sound and are loving this new lifestyle.

I do have a question - hope it is not dumb.

The last boat I had was a 20' bowriding bayliner with no amenties. This is my first boat with a fully galley, porta potty, stern drive (have only had outboards before) - well you get the point.

My question is this. I was reading the porta potty instruction and it seems the it does not empty into the waste holding tank. It is my impression that I can have it either pumped out at a pump out station or do it myself. Am I correct in assuming this. My fiancee and I find it hard to believe that the waste holding tank is just for the galley sink.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

All the best,
Paul (aka Sea P.A.)

Boats can have waste tanks and gray water tanks and the 240's can be equipped with both from what I can gather reading the material on Sea Ray's web site for the 1997 240DA. But your signature says you have a macerator which is part of a waste holding tank. As far as I know a waste holding tank would not be provided unless you had a vacuflush toilet. Which brings up the question................are you absolutley sure you have a port-a-potti or do you have a vacuflush toilet?

I think he has the Porta-Potty that has the pump out hose to deck fitting. The porta-potty has a small holding tank at the base. It's not very big but this option on the 240DA was in lieu of a Vacuflush or other larger toilet that had a holding tank.

So Paul, Welcome. Keep and eye on the level in the base of the porta-potty and pump out as often as you can. I had the same set-up on my 230OV and it worked ok.

Your sink(s) more than likely drains overboard.

Some lakes require No Discharge of any kind meaning "Grey Water." Grey Water is generated from the galley, AC condesnations, shower water and wash sinks.

In most cases SR does not retain any grey water, but rather has has a common grey water discharge system where all manner of such described waste is collected into a small tank and collectively dischaged by a small bilge type pump inside the tank. This tank can (and should) be opened and cleaned periodically to prevent disasterous overflows.

Totally separate is the human waste system and the two never meet, no matter what.

Thanks to everyone who replied. After reading all the replies and checking the boat itself, I realize that I have a Porta-Potty that has the pump out hose to a deck fitting in the engine compartment. Obviously it is locked in the off position as it is highly illegal to dump in the water - even the long island sound ;) I knew that I did not have a vacu-flush because I looked at a 250 with that and would of preferred that by could not work out a deal. As for the sink water (I only have a stern shower) it does drain into a holding tank - I just had it pumped out the other day. I will keep an eye on the level in the porta-potty and have it pumped out even time I get gas. Again thank you all for helping me clear this up.

Paul
