Does NoFlex really work?

After joining CSR and learning about NoFlex, I have shared it with my other boating friends who don't own Sea Rays and we all have had excellent results. I know that NoFlex does not recommend rinsing the tank, but we found that using the macerator pump 3 miles offshore at the end of each trip doesn't get everything out the way the Admiral wants it. We found that a trip to the dock pump-out once a quarter to first flush the nastiness and then rinse once or twice keeps things in bristol fashion, if in fact crap in a tank can ever truly be clean. o_O

I believe the freshwater dissolves the noflex and allows for distribution of it throughout the tank before you start putting mostly waste in the tank.

noFlex does not recommend rinsing the tank as that removes the healthy bacteria that you are trying to encourage the growth of to Eliminate the odors.

using NoFlex is a totally different mindset, you’re actively trying to grow biological cultures that eat and dissolve the waste and Eliminate the odors.

the thing we had to adjust is pumpout frequency. It’s free at our marina so with the small tank on the 290 I’d go once a week. It takes a long time to fill 40G on the 410 but I try to follow noflex’s instructions and only pump once we’re at least 1/2 full. Our tank also goes from 1/2 to Do Not Flush on the indicator which is annoying. I wish it had a 3/4 sensor

Awwwwrighty then. Rethinking the whole head option after reading this thread.

I have bad pictures in my mind of the disasters I would cause w my mechanical skills.

I've heard of RV owners putting ice into their tanks while driving to slosh around and break up crud. I don't know how easy that would be into a vacuum flush tank (could you put it in via the waste removal cap??) but in gravity fed tanks of RV's, its pretty simple.

We full timed RV when I was working in the Texas oil fields. We went to a larger RV and the PO had left the hoses open and let the solids just drop and sit while the liquids ran out. I was told about the ice thing. I thought what the heck. I filled the tank about half full with water. Dumped in 25 or 30 lbs of ice and pulled the trailer around town a couple of times. Drained the tank and the solids came out. I did this again a few weeks later and the tank came out spotless. Before doing the first treatment, you couldn't see a light shined down the tank from the outside. After, you could see it in places. After the second treatment, you could see someone flush on a dark night.

It works great to scrub the inside. But I don't know know about the movement on a boat and looking at ours, how to get that much ice in the tank.

I don't do the rinse thing either with the garden hose....when the tank is empty I flush the toilets for 45 seconds then finish the pump out
so if a new pump out is done and you have a dry tank and a 2 happens yes it flushes with water but a 42 gallon tank with a simple flush will not do enough to keep the turd from finding a dry spot to cling on to... all I know I have ours for a year now and we have no issues with this method same of our RV.. its the owners choice for sure but a few gallons makes a huge difference in something that can ruin a day or more

I have two holding tanks on the Carver and two sumps. I bought both the Noflex and the Bio-cleaner and have a bottle of each in each head. I have been regularly using it and only the cleaner in the bowls and it works great now since Feb. I drop some bleach in the shower drains now and again to keep them smelling fresh though.
Carpe Diem

We have a poopless system on our boat .... unless there is an emergency and that’s usually runny anyways :).
I think it was @MonacoMike started a conversation whether NoFlex could really work in a urine only environment. I don’t know if the question ever got answered..... in any event it has worked for us for a few years and this year we switched to Carter’s Poopy Powder and are getting the same good result

Just back from 11 days on the boat. We are definitely NOT a poopless system and have been having great results with noflex. I do plan on converting to the homebrew once i deplete my supply.

I have been using NoFlex with the bio-cleaner and the Tank-Teria tablets in my waste tank for fours years now with great results. I have had inconsistent results with my shower sump. I wonder if I am not putting enough in there or often enough as I often get a smell from my shower sump. For those of you who have success in the shower sump, what is the formula for getting it to work?

I had decent results in the shower sump *IF* we didn't use the sinks/showers much. Otherwise it was very spotty. I am sure I was basically pumping out the good bacteria as we filled the sump up.
Someone here recommended the clorox tank tablets for the shower sump and the results have been great.

We have been using it for several years now since I first read about it on here with great results. Here is my story and how it saved me hundreds of dollars... The forward head cycled every 1-2 hours, the duckbill valves had been replaced within 6-12 months of our purchase so I knew it wasn't that, I would just turn the system off at night and not worry about it. After I started using NoFlex I was putting the boat away for its winter nap, the head system was off, water on and I put NoFlex down the offending head + the other one for good measure. Several months later when I turned the system on for our first cruise of the new year the cycling was non-existent, whatever was in there was eaten by the microbes and the problem was solved for $.50 of NoFlex. This was several years back and it has not cycled once without a flush involved.

Do you use an entire tablet in shower sump? How often to you add another dose?

The tablets don't eat away at the plastic or rubber?

2 seasons in and all good.
I do use a whole tablet and monitor when it gets pretty small toss in another. It does a great job.

How often depends on how much showering we do on the boat. I expect I'll be dropping in another tablet when I am on the boat next. That will be the first one since splashing the boat for the season in March.

Thank you @The Bill Collector !!!

Poop will always smell. Nothing is 100% effective. I've been using it for 5 years with good results. You have to keep the filter fresh. At least every other year. Really helps with keeping the floats clean. Regular pump outs help too. Heat can make it less effective. Overall thumbs up from me.

12+ years, I have replaced a 20-year-old check valve...

Here we go!
