Does NoFlex really work?

I think the two main benefits of Noflex is keeping the floats in the waste tank clean so the gauge keeps working and preventing the waste hoses from getting permeated with a foul odor.
Both are accomplished by it’s ability to effectively use bacteria to quickly break down solid crud rather than letting it accumulate in spots where it will cause a float or duckbill not to work properly or a hose/line to stink.
My waste indicators in both heads work (knocking wood here), and there is no smell in the cabin or bilge from permeated waste hoses, so it appears to be doing it’s job.
The waste that’s in the tank itself is still waste and will smell, so you still need a vent filter. You might need to change it less often, but you’ll still need it.
If someone is looking for a product to turn waste in to sparkling clean liquid to make ice cubes with, this ain’t it.
A bonus off label use of Noflex for me is using it in my sumps to prevent slime build up.
Rather than unscrewing the lids for the two sumps, I occasionally pour it down both shower drains and in the pans for both AC units. Aside from not having to deal with removing the sump lids, pouring it in the drains and pans seems to prevent buildup in the lines that run between those shower drains and pans and the sumps they lead to.
Since I started using it I don’t have any more problems with slow/clogged shower or AC pan drains, and when I open the sumps there is no slime buildup in them, so the Noflex seems to be working.
I did have a problem with a slow shower drain and had to replace a float switch due to it being gunked up in one of the shower sumps the first season I got the boat. That’s what caused me to try the Noflex for the off label use.
Using the pan tabs doesn’t seem to have effected the impact of the Noflex in the sumps at all. But keep in mind that there is no solid waste in the sumps so I guess the bacteria that’s needed to break up poop isn’t needed in them.
I guess that if a person was in the habit of pooping in the shower then they may want to refrain from using pan tabs in the AC pans...................

If the NoFlex representative is reading this thread, can NoFlex be used in household a/c condensate drain pans? The difference from boats is the house drain pan is in the air stream going into the ductwork whereas the boat pan is not.
I don’t want to introduce any unwanted vapors into my home air system.

AC drain pan tabs would be a much cheaper way to keep those drain lines clear.
The only reason I sprinkle some in the AC pans on the boat is because that condensation drains in to the sumps and I want to keep the sumps free of gunk and soap scum.

Do not forget biological growth can occur in sumps and hoses. Had that in my 270.

This stuff is a dream... Purchased some from Amazon after reading this thread. All summer every time someone would flush the smell was unbearable, to the point where I asked people to stop using the toilet (Admiral was not happy lol).

I did a pump out, couple teaspoons of noflex, let it sit for a day or two. Then poured some water into my tank and did another full pump-out. (Hoping the noflex just broke up anything and kind of cleared the tank out which I think it did).

Had a few friends on the boat last weekend and was flushed multiple times.. no more smell:D Now just to keep up with it.

For those that winterize, do you put any noflex in the tank over the winter? Or is that not necessary

The instructions that come with the no flex or online will tell you what to do for your winter layover. I store indoor heated so I put a good amount of water and no flex in for the winter. How do you store will make a big difference on what you may want to do. But you definitely want to have that in your tank over the winter. I am also putting in the Terri tabs as well.

I don’t use NoFlex in the winter. My routine for the heads is simple. Pump out, pour a bit of pink in each bowl and flush it through to the tank.
No problems with stink or otherwise.

Mine isn’t heated, but will do the same, if it can at least do something it will be well worth the little expense. I feel the longer no flex is in tank, the better it can work to free up 20 years of ick

I had to change the pump in my shower sump last month and it was a slimy mess. Poured some No Flex down my shower drain after reading your thread and checked the sump yesterday and perfectly clean. Put some in the AC pan last week but still needs some work there so added a little more yesterday. Thanks for the tip.

I helped a new boater to our marina pump out, I had told him previously about Noflex. (We use fully but he just does #1 on his boat.) When I removed the pump out cap, challenged him to find a bad odor, he could not. Then he watched me pump out was surprised there was never a smell throughout the entire process.

He pulled the cap on his boat and you could smell it 15 feet away and he was about to gag being right at the opening. When he pumped out it was blue from so much perfuming tank treatment but you would have never known it had any chemical and no solids in it, it reeked.

Have used no flex for 3 years, Using happy Camper all this year. I think just as good, Less expensive, And you just add it once to a empty tank and you are done till you pump out again. Tank is staying clean and no smell at all.

Our boat is in hi and dry, so when we go to the boat, the first thing I do is flush noflex. We use the head throughout the day, and there is no smell. Before I used noflex flushing was followed by a gag-fest topside. It is definitely helping.

You likely got your tank cleaned out and no longer need the amount of a noflex type treatment.

Last boat had a Purasan treatment, I'm on my first boat with a holding tank. I saw a couple of mentions early in this thread about using OxiClean? A year later, has anyone successfully used Oxi instead of NoFlex? I looked at the Noflex "recipe" but OxiClean off the shelf seems cheap and easy, if it works. Thoughts?

A lot of us our making our own Noflex for basically free in comparison.....for me I have no reason to try anything else it works perfect

I used NoFlex last season, after hearing good things, and they sent me a free sample. I haven't had any issues, and never any smell or anything, so I'm sticking with it, and will be ordering another bottle soon.

OP here. I have been using it a couple of months, and it seems to be working well. I put some in once or twice a week, depending how much we're using it, and we don't have any smell. So far, so good!

I started using NoFlex last year and have been very happy with the results. I bought it from MarineSan and got 4 bottles last year to get the free shipping but when these run out I'll be making my own as Blueone said above. Here is the link to MarineSan.

If you're interested in making your own search for Carter's Poopy Powder on the forum.

I used as directed last year and really struggled. This year i have went double the amount, and no issues. When this supply runs out, i will probably make my one as instructed above
