Does NoFlex really work?

Do folks just remove the charcoal filter to get more oxygen in the tank?

I like the NoFlex so far...I wonder...what about tossing a little Oxi Clean to help with the sludge? Using both??

I just started NoFlex, but I'm optimistic from what I've heard/read. I just added a half a scoop to my shower drain yesterday. But you have to use it sparingly in that area, so you don't gum anything up in the sump. And they'll give you your money back, if you're not satisfied.

Only if you, your family, and your neighbors tend to go nose-blind pretty quickly. That filter is why you don't smell anything from the tank vent. What a lot of people do, though is modify their filter to allow them to to change the charcoal instead of replacing the entire filter. Refillable filters are also available online.

I was hoping someone would find something fairly authoritative on if those Amazon substitutes would work just as well.
Mine are being delivered tomorrow, so I'll mix then up 2:1 and see...

How would you know?... I would think it would take a while to build up

keep us posted
I think the answer lies in the MSDS's that you posted earlier...No Flex was 60% sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate and 30% sodium carbonate. The other 10% looked basically inert.

So I ordered sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate. As best as I could determine (being and ME and AE - NOT a ChemE) sodium percarbonate is essentially the same as sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate. I ordered 10 lbs of percarbonate and 5 lbs of carbonate. Perfect ratio....

If my holding tank explodes and I survive the fecal event, you all will be the first to know...

Sodium carbonate is also known as soda ash or soda crystals. Sodium percarbonate is also known as sodium carbonate hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate.

I think you're good

In reality, there are probably a lot of people still using formaldehyde perfumes ("blue lightning" - as we called it in the older, pre-vacuflush airliners), and the carbon filter (if maintained) keeps dockmates from smelling odors...

Are there even commercial products containing formaldehyde available today? I thought it was considered a hazardous waste?

One of my dockmates bought a 1992 50' Hyatt. Her holding tank exploded on her first night on the boat!! Talk about tears!!

What did those run you on Amazon? I've been having good luck with Unique Marine Digest It, which comes in liquid form. $40 for three 32oz bottles.

I just treated my system after a thorough pump out and flush with the Noflex. I put a little down the shower drain so we will see how well it works. I have a big orange filter with replaceable carbon pellets and I have had very neutral smelling vent when the toilets flush using the Blue chemicals from Camping world. We spend two nights a week at most on the boat and pump out on average, once a month. I'll treat each time I close down the boat and see how well it works. If I like it I think I may go the DIY mix.
Carpe Diem
