Do You Have An Adequate First Aid Kit?

Play Dough is right on with his response,

No he's not.

and it certainly wasn't thread jacking.

Yes it was.

if you think that your operating a boat is dangerous then take a seat as a passenger, like on the highway it's the elderly that are making things dangerous for everyone around them.

Has CSR been taken over by idiots? That is the most asinine quote in years on this board. Has there been an Idiot-Apocolypse I should know about?

Hey 4 sons, your one of the entitled ones that SWF340 just mentioned. Even though MM is your dad, your 1 man with 1 opinion

Valid point! I have three on a 24' boat. The extinguisher in the engine compartment is needed to buy some time for passengers to abandon, the other 2 are simply to satisfy the law!

I wonder if those other 2 could come in handy on fires that start elsewhere on the boat...:grin:

I've often told my admiral because she's very afraid to dock our 480 , but I informed if if I am having a heart attack just drive it straight up the neatest boat launch ramp I'll worry about the scratches if I make it ....

Sorry, I wasn't aware differing opinions were taboo. I didn't call anyone names or insult anyone. Guess that's the way "idiots" behave.

To answer the original question, yes I have an adequate first aid kit.

All this mention of first aid kits but no mention of training...

Do you know that a a medical first responder class (like the ones taught to police officers) is generally a 40 hours class that is taught in the evenings?

Training could make the difference between knowing what is truly an emergency and what could maybe just use a bandaid.

I have been fortunate in my 30 years of operating a boat that I have only had to use a few items out of my first aid kit. Although I am not a medic by profession anymore the times I did use them though challenged every bit of my medical training (certified as a medic for 19 years now...)
Best suggestion in the thread...get some basic training to go with that first aid kit.

Forgot to mention I got the bottom of my boat painted today and still had time to banter with my lousy grammer and spelling.

Yes, CSR has been infected with idiots. What other way would one describe the delusional attack on a thread with three points, "Do You Have An Adequate First Aid Kit?", that boating is dangerous, and an offer of a few suggestions as to what one might need to prepare for.

This thread was most certainly hijacked as it should be a discussion of items we may need in our first aid kit and creating valuable information for future users, not a debate on whether boating is dangerous.

Gary, you might update your signature to include "and a crotchety old father" since you have been deemed my son by clearly unimpeachable sources? When are you going to invite dear old dad for a "week on the coast". Lol

Sure they would! But the reality is, a fire within such a confined space is not worth the risk of life

That's the best advise I've heard in a long time! Even my admiral could handle that...

Never considered boating to be a dangerous activity, never mind most dangerous. Maybe you can elaborate on exactly what your doing that's so dangerous. Personally I go out to relax.

It's scary that we share the water with people that are so oblivious the dangerous around them. That's exactly how accidents happen....That "it'll never happen to me" mentality.

All the bickering aside this post will have us revisiting our first aid kit which is the basic $40 one from west marine.

The thread is hijacked and ruined anyway...

If you have a grease skillet fire onboard you are abandoning ship?

A trash can fire?

It's amazing that people dont think to use a fire extinguisher. We use them on Car fires that are fully involved. A single 20# ABC can will put out a fully involved sedan. A small extinguisher will put out big fire. With 2 simple 20# dry powder 's we put out a roaring pit of LNG with 30' tall flames at the academy years ago to prove their effectiveness. A grease fire will easily be extinguished with a small kiddie extinguisher. There are better things to use, like a metal lid of a pot or pan but an ABC extinguisher is an extremely valuable tool.
I carry 3 on my boat not including the engine room automatic. One at the helm, one in the cabin and another under a seat on deck that can be accessed just as fast as removing the helm one from its bracket.

Its OK it would most likely be DC so it would be a safe fire.
I loved that line from earlier. Cars ar DC and never catch fire from electrical problems
