Do you cook in your cabin....

Well this has just been an excellent read for me. I am enjoying every input. The diversity of answers is so cool.

Regarding #2, like Scott I grew up before vacuflush and #2 on a boat wasn't even considered. As nasty as it might seem, it was wait or get in the water. That being said, I'm not about to ask my wonderful wife and first mate to wait or get in the water. I do, but I don't ask her to. And knowing how I feel, she asks me whenever if "it's okay..." Where I boat it's easy to get 5 miles out so.....

Regarding cooking in the cabin....like JVM' just said and many others before him...we cook simple stuff, mostly microwaveable stuff. I've yet to use the cooktop but that's more lack of opportunity than choice. I don't see myself cooking Indian food or seafood in the cabin ever... a 340 in SW Florida doesn't get the fresh air it needs to recover from those indulgences.

There are pump-out set-ups available for the porta potties.
We have a 5 gallon porta potti with fittings hooked up to the vent and pump-out.
Easier than taking it out to empty but there is still that option, which I do when winterizing.
It gets pumped out every time we buy fuel. Using chemicals and a good rinse when pumping out we have no odor issues.

Do you have a link or photos? I was looking at a taller Porto potty to increase the lower tank size. And a pump out hook up would be even better if I'm staying over night at a marina. Hate to do the walk of shame to the bathrooms carrying the Porto potty... LOL

" and use Noflex Digester! "

This stuff is delicious in a casserole. And it Keeps you regular.

We treat Serendipity like home, no constraints. We both love to cook. So I'd have to say it is a home with a very, very poorly equipped kitchen, so we do a lot of grilling. Since that's how we cook at home (even in blizzards), I guess we really do treat her like home.

I think the people who worry about their heads either worry rightly about their older, more fussy plumbing, or worry rightly that their kids / guests can't follow "the rules" about what you can throw in a head, or just worry needlessly.

We are starting a Field Trip to Monaco Mike's so we can all do #2 in his vacuflush.

The signup sheet will be posted later today.

Come on Rick, get that sheet posted, I need to know who is coming. After all since the gennie was added we only have 15 gallons capacity, so sign up early, or be ready to go in the water...

Hit Google up and search "MSD Porta potty" Dometic etc carry a wide range. You'll probably want a 5 gallon model.

We don't cook too much on the boat....just for fun. We prefer eating out or bringing pre-prepared stuff. We cook at home and vacation on the boat. Cooking all the time is no vacation for the Mrs. We prefer White and Blush Wines so that's not an issue. As far as the Head.....showering is nicer in the Bath House and the Head is used when needed.....not abused. Guests are instructed to use the Clubhouse facility before any day trips but the Head is there for a reason, Mike.

Priceless! :smt038

I won't cook bacon in the galley. I did that once and the boat smelled like bacon for weeks.

You say that as if it's a bad thing. I don't get it.

Try talking your dog into leaving the boat when the whole thing smells like bacon.

Sheesh this topic is getting bad, gone from the smell of bacon to pictures of a porta-potti! In one post

Don't have a dog, but I'd never get my wife out of there. "Bacon is it's own food-group"

Im laying in my cabin right now. Your post made me wish I had something to microwave to eat, but Ive never used the stove. I have a grill aboard to use for that. And yes, Ive used the crapper before. In waves so bad I think I got a concussion. Not to mention the three to four day trips Ive taken with friends.
