Did I bend my props?

Bummer, but I guess it could have been worse, maybe?

As long as they are pulling the shafts I guess now is a good time to check cutlass bearings, shaft alignment, maybe put on a new set of seals.

Are the props serviceable?

I imagine if the shafts are slightly bent they can straighten them?

It's supposed to be thunderstorms this weekend anyway... Hopefully you'll be back on the water soon.

good thinking Greg, well the shafts arent visibly bent so they will check them by machine, the props arent that bad they were sent to be done already tthanks for caring guys.

I second the prop scan. Had mine done and what a difference. I also had the prop...thinking thinking....paint (can think of the name of it now) put on the props. The guys that dives my boat says nothing sticks to that stuff. He said props still look new after a year. Man I wish I could remember what that paint was called.

Propspeed , yeah i checked it out in the spring the local store owner talked me out of it he said only the commercial fishing boats buy it , it's not worth the money to spend on a boat thats only in the water for 5 months. anyway maybe theres still time to have them tuned i'll check tomorrow.

I have PropSpeed on my shafts and props, been there for 4 years now, the stuff is awesome. Next year I will re-do props and shafts, and then also do my rudders and trim tabs.

OK, both props are bent, and theyre sending the shafts to be checked , all in all a lot of $$$$$$$$$:smt089

Well, I guess it could have been a lot worse right? Think of it as a bump in the road. Good thing you put that new 4208 on now... after the repair you might not have wanted to drop the beans! haha As Paul already mentioned, you are always welcome on Ship Faced

Thanks joe, sorry.....but like the guys said...it could have been worse
did you learn anything from this????

yeah not to take up flying anytime soon!!!!! seriously, "always maintain a proper lookout when at all possible" I think thats how the rule is written? nice to have a second person at the helm with you. our problem is when we head home the wife goes down below to get a headstart on cleaning. guess we'll both clean when were in the slip.:smt089

Hey Joe,
Sorry man. I usually have my props done @ Bossler & Swezey in Bellport, they have never steered me wrong. Again, don't kill urself too bad. S%#t happens. Same thing could have happened with your wife helping then you'd be yelling at her!!! :smt001 Watch the gps and the bouys, thats the best you can do, and throttle down a little when in new area's :smt001 !!! Good luck!! Todd

URGENT OFFICIAL DAMAGE REPORT!!!!!!
1, port prop bent and re -conditioned
2, port side shaft bent and straightened
3, port side cutlass bearing replaced
4, starboard side prop re-tuned (not bent)
5, starboard shaft and bearing fine.
well thats that ,the money spent was going to a new camper top,,,
i'll have to hangout down below come the watch hill trip.:smt013

Cool, So you are back in?

Did you take a look at the impellers? I imagine they checked the alignment when they put the shafts back?

Now you can make the raftup at Coecles on the 8th :smt001

C and D marine delivered her to her slip tonite so i took her across the bay, I think she stays on plane at lower rpm's now could this be? they tun ed the props.I'm assuming they checked everything related to the grounding. i'll check with Charlie in the morning Aug 8th huh?

This is what I use the kids for. Send them down to clean. I'm not sure having my wife up top helps as a lookout but sure is a lot more fun to talk to her for the drive back.

Seriously though sorry about the repair bill. Glad you are back on the water.

I bend my props almost yearly on fort Loudon. I have two sets for both boats now. I fortunately have never damaged the sterndrive. Almost all of my prop bends are from hitting floating debris in the spring not from running aground. Logs seem to like to float just below the surface.
