Delta Mariner takes out Eggner's Ferry bridge in western KY

I have a friend that is currently on this ship. He has made several of the trips on this boat that runs from Baton Rouge to Decatur, AL and back. He says that the span they hit was the only one lit. There is USCG, Dept of Transportation, owners, and, lawyers all over the place. He suspects they will be there about 48 hours before moving on.

We boat this area every weekend. Main channel is well marked plus it's winter pool, although the water level is about 1 1/2 ft above winter pool today. If they followed the sailing line, not sure what else could have went wrong. Be interesting to hear the final story.

"Sacco said the boat was not severely damaged"

Amazing that you can take out a complete section of steel bridge and sustain only minor damage. Little bridge and big boat I guess.

That bridge is verry narrow. When you pass another vehicle you feel like your mirrors are going to smack.

Yea, my friend on the boat said the only damage he saw was 1 broken window. He was amazed.

Yeah, me and my wife were on that bridge last weekend and I had to pull the mirrors in on my truck. Being from that state of Tennessee, I didn't realize that any bridges like that were still around.

The bridge that crosses the Ohio river at Madison Indiana is pretty narrow as well.

Maybe thats why folks kept jumping off it during the hydroplane races - not enough room for two cars AND a person to pass at the same tume...
