So I jumped ship in Hong Kong, and made my way to Tibet, where I got on as a Luper...

Or..."there I was at 43,000', I had a shot and I took it"...

Great job rick. Great to see you all. Hmm got a couple picks of the 350SLX from the secret function. Will have to try and post later. What invite you signed up for something didn't you. Lol

At the airport headed to the house.

Dropped Captain Rusty off at the airport rent-a-car place to rent a car so he could drive home. Budget wouldn't let him have the Mustang GT they gave me (the speedo goes to 160 and I saw 105 briefly on a deserted stretch of I-85) and put him in a VW Passat for his ride home. Putt-putt-putt to FL. Don't tell him, but, I will have been out on the boat for about 4 hours by the time he gets home.

Thanks to the folks at Sea Ray for the invite.

Hey, I thought you said Webster was gonna be there? I didn't see any pix of this International Man of Mystery!

I see that Sea Ray has changed the boats to include a lot more real estate out back (extended swim platforms). That's nice. I wonder if they'll be strong enough to support a dinghy or jet ski out of the factory.

And where can I get one of those new Sea Ray hats, Rusty?

My wife and I spent some time on the 350DA which is the newest model of our current boat. Roberto Cox from SeaRay was really helpful in talking through some of the challenges and strategies. Roberto is US based but originally from Brazil. He ran through some examples of things they have done on the new 350 to address the market needs beyond US waters. Turns out that in Brazil/Southamerica they spend much of their time on the stern and are looking for a gourmet area to cook. If you notice in one of the pictures below you'll see a cooking station that has been added on the stern as well as the extended platform. Roberto said they were losing sales in the market without this as an option. Not sure how it will sell here, but it is absolutely required to compete beyond the US. Similar choices were made down below with the mid-berth and the option to add a bulkhead/door. Bottom line is SeaRay needs to compete beyond our waters in order to grow so they are looking for ways to build platforms which are more versatile/flexible. This is very similar to the strategy of automakers. We'll see how it works out.
Overall the event was enjoyable and a good chance to rub elbows with some very knowledgable SeaRay employees. Free lunch didn't hurt either!

Great to meet a few more CSR members. Hope everyone had a safe trip home.

Mike - did you and Helen buy a boat?

We got the cold shoulder treatment at MM. Hell, lets not sugar coat it. They treated us like crap. Didn't even have the boat we went to see. So we went to Singleton, where we were treated like potential customers should be, and viewed this gem.... Probably not the one for us but we were shown 3 Sea Ray boats & got some really good dinner advice. Hope Sue is feeling better. Remember dinner at Goose Pond is on us!

Michael,

You probably realize that there aren't many SR owners as passionate about the brand as I. Don't let a bad experience at one of their dealers run you away from the brand...........at some point, hopefully, MM will realize that not everyone who walks in the door is a buyer for a new $1.5 mil yacht, but by treating all potential buyers properly they may leverage one sale into several sound trade-ins and multiple boat sales as we move up to our eventual boating goal, whatever that is. There are more games in town than Marine Max Ga., so broaden your horizons and take a look at Erwin Marine in Chattanooga, Nashville Yacht Brokers, or learn to use MM's system to your advantage. Call me and I'll introduce you to at least 2 excellent customer oriented MM sales people who can sell you the boat of your dreams without a hassle or being treated poorly.

Thanks Frank. MM, or anyone else would have a hard dang time moving me away from Sea Ray. I bought my current boat from Erwin in Chattanooga, and have driven many miles in 4 or 5 states to look at Sea Ray boats. Helen and I do a lot of weekend road trips and we often include a marina along the way. We have met lots of sales guys and brokers. We learned long ago that there are good and bad.

Thank you again Frank for your time at these events and here on CSR. For those that have not yet met Frank,(and others in this thread), he is indeed everything he is cracked up to be. After last years Homecoming Helen asked "what is in it for him to spend his time with you guys". After this weekend I think she gets it.

CSR,

Thank you all for coming to our Saturday event at Lake Lanier. What a beautiful lake and how great it was to see many of you. I do know it was a last minute arrangement for an open house on Saturday with MarineMax and certainly hope it predicates a Homecoming opportunity for Sea Ray in the future.

Again, thanks for coming to see our new product line to include the 510FLY and the exciting 350SLX. I do have to thank a bunch of you who personally came to the end of the dock to say hi to me. I am humbled beyond words by the kindness shown by our owners, what a great, great group of people. Want to thank each but the list would go on and on and you already know how I feel.

I also hope those that did speak with me about concerns, will not let me off the hook. If you feel I can be of any assistance in helping you or your SR boat for ANY matter, please feel free to contact me. I will do my best.

Capt. Rusty

good morning Mrs. Nix…… and thank you!
