I planned to boat from the Annapolis area to Baltimore today, but it's raining! Looks like the rain is going to stop ~2:00 today and temps in the mid-50's (not too bad!) but tomorrow isn't looking so great for the return trip home (mid40's and 25knot winds). Ugghhhhhh!

Still may take her out but the temporary slip is 17' wide and the boat is 16' wide and the turn around into the slip (between the slips on the other side) is only 65ft... not sure if this is a great combination third time out on the boat in 25knot winds.... guess we'll see who wins this debate my id or sper-ego.

Anyone else going out on the Chesapeake this weekend?

At least the sun is shining in the Southeats, Ga. that is, but the wind is blowing like crazy and the temp is cooler now than at 5:30 this AM when I came out to come to work, had plan on maybe an afternoon run, no way now.

You have a 56 foot boat in the northern (i.e. SISSY) part of the bay... How rough can it get up there when the bay is like 1/2 mile wide?! The James River here is wider than the bay up there!

Our morning rain is peeling back, yeilding to Party sunny skies later today, so we're heading out on our fist overnighter.
We're going to head to Bell Harbor Marina on Seattle's waterfront.
Tomorrow they say mostly Sunny 52 until late afternoon clouds and rain. Perfect :smt038

Definitily not worried about the waves (this time of year with wind there can be anywhere from 2ft. to 5ft. chop in the bay) more worried about docking in the extremely tight slip in 25knot winds tomorrow!

If anything I'd be rooting for the larger waves to make the cold trip more interesting...bring them on!

Main delema is that I've only had the boat out twice (the way home to a friends dock, and then to my marinas temporary dock I am in now) and docking is something I'm still getting used to with the 37" pitch props.. darn boat idles at 7 1/2 knots! So trying to turn around with only 5ft to spare front to back between the opposing slips and then with only six inches on each side of the boat in the temporary slip (which is only 17ft wide) may be a little tricky in 25knot winds.

Mike

Won't you be worried the whole time you are cruising about whether you can get back in the slip without incident? I would be worried if it were me.:smt043

If I had to make the call, I would stay put. It's just not worth taking a chance. Also it appears this high wind is affecting many of us. We have very high winds here as well as evidenced by our local advisory below.

.......................................................................................................
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EST THIS EVENING...

A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EST THIS EVENING.

WESTERLY WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH...WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH...WILL
CONTINUE TODAY ACROSS MUCH OF THE FOOTHILLS AND PIEDMONT OF THE
WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA. SINCE THE GROUND IS WET
FROM RECENT RAIN...WINDS OF THIS SPEED WILL KNOCK DOWN A GREATER
NUMBER OF TREES THAN USUAL...RESULTING IN SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES
AND BLOCKED ROADS.

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT WINDS OF 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS
THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH
PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

You just need to ignore all these people... and you need to ignore NOAA as well.
