I have been using this system for over two years to wash my boat and from what I can glean on the internet the soap is no longer available and Mr Clean doesn't show it on their web site any longer either.

What it made it so nice to use on the boat was the fact that the surfactant in the soap allowed the water to sheet off the hull thus eliminating the need to dry it off to prevent water spots. On a dark colored hull like mine this was a godsend. And when you have to wash your boat in a wet slip with long handled brushes and can't reach everything on the hull to dry it this was truly a life saver.

I know a lot of you folks used this system as well and was wondering if anyone else might have another alternative at this point? I have tried Eagle One's car wash soap containing surfactants and it does not work well with the Mr. Clean applicator. Plus that is the only similar soap (to Mr. Clean) that I could find on the market.

Anyone with other thoughts or ideas on what can be used as an alternative?

If you put an activiated carbon refrig filter in your water line it will work as well and longer than the Mr Clean product...

I've seen various products on the web - you are essentially trying to remove minerals from the water which are left when the water evaporates. Interesting tip on the fridge filter - hadn't thought of that one - would just need to adapt it to fit a garden hose. This is one I've looked at in the past but haven't tried it yet:

Saw an "RV" charcoal filter at Wally mart yesterday. Just put it on your hose bib...and hook your hose to it...

BTW, I needed a new fire extinguisher for the Waverunner. PWC extinguisher $22.99 at West Marine - exact same one at Wally mart $9.99.

Sorry for the thread creep...

The water filters aren't the issue. It is getting the water to "sheet" off your hull when you rinse it that is the real problem. If you have a good wax job on your boat it will just bead up instead. The Mr. Clean soap contained a surfactant which causes the water to sheet and dry almost immediately rather than bead up. In fact I never used the Mr Clean water filters because of that and never had a spotting problem because if the water sheets away there is nothing left to cause water spots to begin with.
