Damar Hamlin

That was a really unlucky, one in a million hit, and I hope the young man comes out OK. What astounds me is the reaction of our whole country. Why is there not a reaction like this when a police officer is shot by some worthless bastard? Do they close down the police headquarters and send everyone home? No, everyone of his workmates man up and carry on. What do you think the vets are thinking when they have had to keep fighting and shooting at the enemy while their buddy was lying dying at their feet. They didn't call off the war and send everyone home. Maybe a short mention on the evening news about it is all. As far as I'm concerned it was a total over-reaction by the media and the NFL. Once the ambulance left, there should have been an announcer on the field requesting a moment of silence from the whole stadium for the young man and words of comfort and concern for his family and then continued the game.

I don't know that young fella but I think he would not expect what has happened. Just my $.02

I'm on the fence with the decision to stop the game. The guy had a heart attack....that doesnt mean you send 40k people home.
I was at an Indy race in Michigan a number of years ago and a tire came over the fence in corner 4.....came into our section....4 people killed and I mean brutally....my friend and I tried to help but there was nothing we could do..... track shut our section down....race kept going with no mention of the incident..... same happened at the Indy 500 with one killed.... might be a good idea not to go to a race with me.....but the show must go on
I truly don’t know. But I do believe this. In 500 years they will look back on the NFL in history books, like we look on the Roman gladiators, and think WTF, barbarians.

Wholly Phuck…the family made a go fund me for $2,500…for a toy drive … it’s up to $4M overnight…..wtf?????
I really need try that. I’ll bet if I made a GFM. Didn’t make fake stuff so I can’t be charged with fraud. I could probably get a few hundred.
My cat is sick, needs special food, pay me. I just know fools would send me money. HHMM.

Many years ago there was a simple ad in the Chicago Tribune along the lines of "Last chance to send $1 - PO Box 12345 Chicago IL 60601". And people sent in money but didn't get anything. They tried to sue but he never promised anything for the $1... so nothing happened.

I guess everyone watching the game saw that the advertisers didn't shut down their play for your dollars. They knew you were glued to the screen so you can bet the big guys were calling trying to get extra minutes. They didn't call off their business in respect for Damar.

I remember that race. I worked for an IndyCar team and we had a race the day before in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was driving the motor coach home, listening to that race. I passed Tony George while he was driving his motor coach home to Indy too.

You must’ve been sitting close to some friends of mine because they were in the same section also, I believe they were a few rows up above them.

I think you were talking about the tire that flew off a car and flew over the stands in the fourth turn in Indianapolis. I have a picture of that tire rolling.

In Michigan We were a bit higher up the stands sort of the middle. The tire came over and took out two people in front of us and bounced over and hit people behind us. That tire caused some serious carnage. If your friends saw the victims it’s a memory you can’t get rid of.

The Indy tire was in corner one…. That was years and years ago. We were in tower terrace could see it go over the fence but didn’t see what happened

If I understand the media reports correctly, his GO FUND me page is now being used for this event, as well as it's original purpose for kids?

I understand your point, though I don't see this type of sporting event the same as a physical contact sport where that physical contact may have caused the cardiac arrest and the other players driver were close to it, and watched it. Also, it was a fan, not the driver/player. If a players helmet flew off, and struck a fan, maybe, but that is a stretch IMO.

I heard on the radio leaving work the nfl wanted to keep the game going….. it was the players/coaches that wanted to stop

I’m in a bar for lunch ….. every single tv is on a different channel and all the coverage is Damar…. Except the golf channel…. You know I spent two weeks in the hospital last month getting my heart paddled like it was their job and I got crickets from you phuckers :)

OMG that there is fuuuuny. Sorry to hear, you probably have A-fib and they cardioverted you. Hopefully they gave you a sedative and pain killer. You had it done while awake, most get it done while theyre unconscious. You should carry a taser bro!

If it were a hockey game, they would have wheeled the player off the ice and had a face-off all within 60 seconds. The NFL has gone woke. I do believe the players would have objected to playing and the NFL didn't want to lose that battle. I believe the NFL tried to continue the game underneath the covers but they were told to go pound sand.

Say that to Dan Wheldon and dale earnhart to name a few.
Time will tell if the impact caused the heart attack but odds are it is hard to prove.
It was mentioned earlier it’s a barbaric sport….. it really is from brain damage to Debilitating injuries for life. You know the risks when you step on to that stage. Who doesn’t watch nascar for the crashes?….

Agreed to knowing the risks and @El Capitan that's an interesting observation about hockey. I don't follow/watch hockey, but from the little I have watched you make a good point.

@Blueone my driver died years ago, Alan Kulwicki. I have not been to or watched one since. When they come to Richmond, the track is about 2 miles from my house. I may watch the start.

I read the story about the NFL player who died in the 70s on the field from a heart attack. They thought he was faking to stop the clock and initially ignored him.

OMG….. I am at a bar for dinner and this is the only thing everyone is talking about…… must be a slow news day
Don’t ever underestimate the power of media

Not true. On February 11th, 2020 the St. Louis Blues, then reigning Stanley Cup champs, were playing in Anaheim. Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester went to the bench after a shift sat down and promptly collapsed. CPR was administered for several minutes until a defibrillator could be used. The game was canceled immediately.

My son was 'supposed' to team up with Dan Wheldon the week after he was killed. Mark Dismore owns a kart track in New Castle, IN and we became good friends with Mark and Mark Jr. Mark Jr was best friends with Wheldon. In fact they picked him up at the airport when he came to the U.S. and he stayed with the Dismores for awhile. They hold a race every year called the Robo-Pong 200 (Josef Newgardens family owns Robo-Pong). Mark Jr and Dan Wheldon always teamed up for it. You had to have at least 2 drivers and no more than 4. Mark had mentioned to me that he wanted to cut back on driving and focus more on the business so I told him my son could partner with them for that race if they wanted him to. He said he would ask Wheldon about it. But Wheldon got his schedule mixed up and scheduled a race in Australia the same weekend as the Robo-Pong so we never heard back from Mark about it. Wheldon was killed the week beore that race. Mark Jr withdrew from the Robo-Pong and Mark Sr and Josef Newgarden took their spot and won the race. The race is now called the Dan Wheldon Memorial Cup. We never met Dan Wheldon.

True:
Look up
Christian Eriksen
Keyontae Johnson
Chuck Hughes
Bill Masterton

Plenty of examples in sports where game resumed. Hockey is unlike football in that games are played multiple times in same week, sometimes a day apart.

Yup I remember that game. I'm a huge hockey fan and follow it religiously. Some may say it's tougher, but honestly, It is becoming a bit of a joke. Kids don't start body contact until they are like 15 now and it's starting to really show at the NHL level. Bunch of pussies

Also, I don't think it matters what sport it is. You watch your teammate collapse on the field/ice. Witness him receive CPR, defib etc... knowing he is technically dead and they are trying to revive him... you're not going to want to finish the game. I don't care how tough you are.

Different story if he's knocked out cold and has to be stretchered off - yea game on lets go, happens all the time. It's the cpr fact and knowing that he's technically dead, hard to play a stupid game knowing your friend may be dead
