very sorry news Ian....i am sure he is in a better place now....

i made it through reading this thread and managed to keep my emotions in check....sort of....i started not to read it since i knew the subject and it hits very close to home for me....my dad is 85 and has slowed down significantly over the past few years.....i am afraid he may not be with us much longer...we all need to cherish the time we can spend with eldery and/or sick friends and family before they leave us...

Sorry for your loss. No words can help, I lost my dad on May 1st 2003 it still hurts.

I spoke of this in one of the posts earlier in the week...

I have been with My Dad since Monday, I stayed with him in the nursing home all last night, slept in a chair by his bed and kept him comfortable. My Mum and my wife and daughter were in around 0930 am this morning, and he left us at 10am.

I will be raising a glass of scotch in his honour on World Whiskey Day, and probably several before and after.

My daughter and I were down on Sunday, and took him out for lunch and we had a great day, he started to fail early Monday Morning. He fought until today.
