Hello all, I have been lurking this forum for quite sometime and finally decided to join.

I am 15 and I maintain my family's 2005 320 sundancer. We cruise coastal Maine in the summer months. Unfortunately that is the lenght of our boating season, we see no use in bringing the boat home, Louisville, KY for use on the river. Hopefully this forum will help appease my boating craving until late may.
here are a few pictures from last summers cruising

It's great that your here. Welcome. By the way...You would get even more babes if you got a hair cut. Just kidding. That's a great way to spend a summer. What's the name of your boat.. I didn't see one? Take care, Brian

Downeast,

When I was your age, my parents had me at the helm of the cruiser all the time. Such a responsibility. Such a feeling of accomplishment. Cherish the time spent with them.

And.....welcome to the message board.

Believe me Ron, I cherish every moment. What could be a better time to boat? I get the more enjoyment out of the boat than anyone else does, that is for sure. I know the boat better than my father, so much so he wouldn't go cruising without me. It has been a really great way for us to bond. I hope other CSR members sons are as passionate abotu boating as you are.

Yeah I would say you get the youngest member title, and I thought I had that title (28). Glad to have you as a member!!!

awesome boat! Glad to have you here with us. And this site indeed does make it easier to pass the winter season. Only 75 days until the boat launch....but whos counting??

That brings up an interesting question, at least to me it is. Do any of you let your younger children navigate your boat? Do you let them sit at the helm and steer? My kids are 9 and 7 and I let both of them navigate. Of course I am standing next to or near them with a constant watch. But as we go along I am teaching them about rules of the road and teaching them what to do on the water.

I only let them navigate in open waters. They are not ready for the river or docking.

 Hey DownEast....
Good stuff my man. Have a great time and keep her in good shape.
Here's My Daughters at different ages. You may see a resemblance.

Here is our son (12) helping in the lock and our daughter (9) at the helm! It is great to teach the basics!! That way we have another generation to take us around when they revoke our license!!!

PS, I can't get them to add... I will add them to the virtual marina!

Welcome, DownEast!

That's how I got started--driving the parent's Sea Rays. Dad hurt his shoulder one year, and I got to be the designated 340 DA driver for an entire summer. I got to live on it in return for keeping it spotless and disappearing when they wanted to entertain. Those were the days--no boat payments .

Congrats on having such a great opportunity!

Kameroo,

Sounds about like my setup. I was at the helm for at least 50 of the 70 hours we ran the boat this season. It has been great. I'm always cleaning, polishing, fixing something. I live on the boat all summer too. Consequently since I spend the most time tinkering and maintaining I know more about the boat than my Dad. Don't fault him though he is a great skipper, he just doesn't have the time to clean the boat. Its a fair trade off for me because the less time he has to clean it the more time we get to use it. These are the days too, more boating time than anyone else in the family, no expenses. I'll cherish it while I can

downeast320,

Welcome to CSR. We all start somewhere, and it looks like you are way, way ahead of most if you are already handling and working on the 320DA.

My compliments, as well, on your grasp of and ability to communicate in the written English language. Well written posts are a lot easier to follow and are much more likely to elicit the desired response than one containing incomplete sentences, misspelled words, subject/verb disagreement and gibberish, which I suppose is text message or Blackberry shorthand. This, by the way, is something some of our regular "old timers" have yet to figure out.

We have some knowledgeable and very well experienced boaters here, so be sure to ask if you have any questions............

I can't take all the credit for that one Frank, Firefox 2 has spell check built right in, Its a very handy feature.

Also I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcomes and hope to learn as much as I can this season and maybe teach you guys some new tricks too.
