CSR Northeast Flotilla 2014

The dinghy poker run/water gun fight sounds like a lot of fun. I already have a deck of cards on the boat and some water guns too.
i think doing it at Block is a good idea.

Yes, I agree that Block would be perfect candidate for this event.

Here's the updated version of the poker run idea. We usually host a cocktails party at the raft in Block. So, here's my proposal. At the end of the run we gather everyone at the raft and do a lunch BBQ. This is the time when we'll do the cards count and announce the winner(s). While having quite a big group (including poker run participants) already at the raft, we'll transition this into the cocktaisl party.

As for the help, we'll need quite a bit of help. Depeneding on the number of people participating we'll need cards, envelops, ziplock bags, maps, some signs for the stations and people at the stations. So, even those who don't feel like getting wet we can use your help. And like I've mentioned earlier, we'll need filming/photo shooting crews, the more the better. Who's got the Go-Pros in waterproof case? It would be perfect time to use them. Who's got cameras with good zoom lenses? But, even something as simple as an iPhone will do fine.

Hi Alex

Unfortunately we are going to pass on Ballards, My kids are very picky eaters and the menu doesn't work for us.

Its a shame because the last time I ate there it was awesome.

I will send a check out to you for the pictures.

We are figuring out what offering to bring, as soon as we decide we will let you know.

Thanks again for all your hard work

Neil

Alex, Yulia makes an awesome shepards pie which she can make and bring for the feast, also she makes salsa from our garden that she can bring for chips and salsa on other days. I'm certain if the ballards menu includes prime rib that would be our choice. Whatever for the kids, they eat ours or whatever is around or available. I would like to do the poker run too. We have a couple of guns, nothing too sophisticated. It looks like we may be bringing a water trampoline too(if everything goes well). It has a slide and a balance log and I think the kids will enjoy it. The only thing is it would be better to deploy it in shallow water. (My kids kinda need to see the bottom)I was thinking over by dinghy beach would be good. Of course my boat would need to be with it. (I only draft 28")I don't mind not being tied to the flotilla as it is a short dinghy ride. Like to hear your thoughts.

That's sound great, Ross!

I think the trampoline is a great idea. I know Greg has some nice big mash float and few other have some floats. Our raft usually looks like a floating resort/party island/dinghy dock.

Regarding the location, I have to set the proper expectation that most likely we will not fit in the area by dinghy beach. Last year it was packed and there was no way for big raft to squeeze in there. So, we ended up right across from Champlin's in 20' of water. This was fine as we were very close to the rest of the group at Champlin's.

Anyway, this is one of the things that we won't know for sure until we get to Block and asses the situation. If there's a chance for other CSR folks who'll get there before us to reserve a spot with some floats that would be awesome. Otherwise, we'll just have to see what's available upon arrival.

Oh, another thing. I'm pretty sure while you guys are in Mystic I can; A - scrounge up a car to leave at the shipyard for you guys to use or B- shuttle you, let's say to Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods or olde mystic village/aquarium.

Our Daily Compass is tarting to come to live......

And to bring some cool memories, here's the last year's Flotilla trailer:

That would be great, Ross. I'm sure few of us would love to take that offer to be shuttled some place not too far.

Alex,

Some updates from us... We are in for Ballards as well. We will bring Shrimp and Cocktail sauce for the feast.
We will raft with the flotilla at port 1 and port 3. We are most likely doing Greenport for port #2.
What else 'ya need to know?
For the GSB contingent, we are planning on leaving Friday am and depending on conditions will either overnight near Shinnecock or go directly to Shelter Island. Always looking to travel with others. Give a shout!
Can't wait to see ya'all soon.

Ron & Wendy

Ross/Ron, I've updated your table offerings on the first page.

Just a quick reminder about the picnic area setup. There are picnic style tables and benches. If we would like to have tablecloths, we'll need to supply them. There are some charcoal grills and the charcoal can be purchase at the marina store.

We also need someone to bring utensils, cups, napkins, and possibly tableclothes.

we look forward to seeing you guys and having some fun

Neil

John,
Take a look at the first page where I have all the dates and ports. If the answer to your question is not there, let me know and I'll provide more details.

Folks,
Just a reminder, I need more responses for Ballard's.

With already less than two weeks away from the the event we don't have a single entry on the menu for the "Feast of the Northeast", which is scheduled for Aug 9th at IBM.

Hi Alex

We will be bring a grilled chicken caesar salad for the feast

Neil

We are going to depart from Oceanside on Friday and head towards Shinnecock. We are going to try to link up with Ron and Wendy as well as any others from the GSB that are leaving Friday. I would like to time it to get high tide inside Moriches Inlet as I have heard you really need the water to get through there.

I know I asked this before, but is everyone from GSB planning to run inside or outside?

That is a great question! I believe that Neil, Pauley O & myself. (if I make it) will be leaving Thursday & spending 2 nights in Shinnecock Marina. We plan on running the inside but the tides work against us because the high tides are earlier as you head east.

Thanks Todd,
Unfortunately we can't start the trip on Thursday, still have to work to pay the bills.....
I guess I will need to have my crew sleep on the boat and head out at 6am to make high tide inside Moriches inlet at 8am on Friday morning. My boss (owns a 50DA) just went out Moriches last weekend and had anywhere from 4-8 feet under him at high tide approaching and into the inlet. He said that the east cut is real deep and was told by the Fire Island Coast Guard that if he wanted to stay inside, use the west cut into the inlet and then run the east cut along the beach. Anyone else able to confirm this?

Ron and Wendy, are you up for starting the trip early in the am on Friday?

Otherwise I could just run from Jones Inlet to Shinnecock on the outside (weather permitting).

We are up for leaving early on Friday, however if the weather cooperates, prefer going out Jones inlet and running the outside.
Dont see the need to exit Moriches if the ocean is flat.
We have another boat who will run with us on Friday am as well and i will advise him of our final plans. He will be going to Shinnecock at a minimum. If ocean is rough, agree to an early start Friday!

Early start Friday with an outside run it is. I will have Arlene, Danny and the dog sleep on the boat Thursday night so we can shove off early. We will work out the exact time and confirm the weather forecast as we get closer to the date.

Anyone else interested in joining our convoy?

Alex, the check is in the mail...

The Daily Compass is looking good, will you slip a copy onto each boat the night before, while you fold the towels into different animals?

This is going to be a great trip, I can't wait.

I'll let you know what we are bringing to the feast as soon as I find out.

I am working on the name tags and want to be sure I don't miss anyone. I got most of the info from the first page, but everyone please check the spellings of your names, boat name, etc. Let me know if there are any problems...

Great....
I am the runt of the litter, so acutely focused on the wind / ocean. If snotty outside, we would absolutely have to leave early and catch high tides through Moriches, so will certainly touch base mid next week.
Others GSB'ers looking at a Friday departure, please chime in....
