CSR Northeast Flotilla 2013

They must have fallen off the edge of the planet. Yak-yak-yak-yak-yak for months in this thread and then...crickets.

Watch, the next post is going to be the "We're having so much fun, we forgot to write" post.

They all sunk and will blame it on the Atlantic City guys...

Alright Ladies,
Didn't know you were waiting with bated breath for an update. And as I recall there were a couple of "We're so busy blah, blah, blah" posts on the AC thread too! So, we arrived at Block Island yesterday. Neil and I ran early too load up with fuel at Star Island in Montauk. The rest of the crew was "supposed" to be departing shortly thereafter & pass us leaving us to catch up with them. Apparently the raft breakup took a little longer than expected. I haven't rendezvoused with Alex yet as he is anchored out with Greg, Joe, Jonathan & Ron. The Haverstraw group, Neil, Larry & I all are docked at Champlin's where we met up with Bmac (Brian).
The raft up at Shelter island was awesome @ the Taylor Island feast was fantastic. It was a very cool place to throw a party.
I will update with some pictures later as Tapatalk now requires that I make a sign on name etc etc. remind me why I paid for this friggin app again.

Todd,

How is the docking situation at Champlin’s? Is the marina full? We are planning on staying there Sunday 8/18 through Wednesday. I haven’t made reservations yet since our trip is heavily weather dependent. The wife is freaked out about crossing the Block Island Sound so conditions are going to have to be calm. Overall I want to get a feel if there are generally slips available on the off days that we will be out there.

Thanks…..And thanks for the info regarding the Moriches area.

This trip is in its 4 th day and I can't remember what day it is , I don't know if I can take 5 more full days of this awesomeness !!! I am rafted with Alex, Greg,Johnathan, Ron , and mike. In the harbor. Not at the Marina.
I have to say with all kidding aside, I am so glad I stumbled upon CSR in 2008 when we started boating I have learned so much from EVERYONE on the site and made some good friends now we are experiencing some very cool places with these friends. thanks CSR and gang!!!!

Right in front of these guys.

I am going to wait to get home to post my pics.
Having way too much fun here...

Alex invited a bunch of different folks to The Invasion of Block Island in order to have a multicultural group of disparate people and vessels. I guess he called the US Navy, also.

Ummmm.... WTF are you trying to say here Rick??

Anyway, moving on from the " Haters", here are a few pics from yesterday.

This is the view from Greg's bridge yesterday during Jonathan's cocktail party:

That you are having a party regardless of the participant's race, color, creed, sex, national origin or the size of your dinghy...

My wife was concerned when we were heading out into the Atlantic to come here. We had about 3-4 foot rollers with good spacing so there was no real issue navigating.
As far as Champlins goes, I would call and make a reservation. They will email you a form. You are supposed to mail a non-refundable deposit for 2 nights. I never sent the check due to negligence and later engine problems that weren't resolved until a couple days before the trip. Regardless I was still in the system supposedly so I was able to get a slip even with the NY Anglers here for some big tuna tournament. They ended up rafting me off of Neil which was no big deal since we had done this the day before in Shelter Island. Here is a pic:

It can get a little crowded in by the floating dock, but there are a lot of dock guys to help you in. There are little or no fixed poles here and they basically just raft the boats together with fenders in between. No worries there. Good luck & enjoy! This was my first time bringing my boat here and we are having a blast. One thing, when you come in the channel go straight in until you reach the first channel on your starboard. That will bring you right to Champlins. That part was a little confusing to me as there are tons of boats moored out here & it wasn't easy to see the channel at first. You can then hail the dock master on channel 68.

We arrived in Newport this afternoon.

We had a great run with Tom (Rough Seas) leading the way. The rest of the Havestraw group is also here ( Val-Ray, Quiet Time & New Freedom) as well as Neil & myself. Mike (I didnt do it) also seasons here and left BI yesterday so we saw him again when we arrived. We all got nice slips at the Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina. This being my first time here I have to say the marina is nice & the town is very cool.
The forecast for Friday is deteriorating rapidly so before we departed Block Island I called ahead to Mark, the dock master here, and got assurances they could accommodate the group an extra day if needed so we won't have to run if the conditions are poor.
I also ran into my bud Russ Calasant here at the marina. He was able to grab a mooring here. The rest of the crew remained in Block Island choosing not to come to Newport long before weather was an issue. So much for 6 months planning!! Haha!!
I had an electrical issue which resulted in melting a couple of cords on the neutral leg. It also damaged the shore power plug on the side of my boat (the chicken or the egg?).

My mechanic and I both think the cause was a loose connection at some point that led to arcing. I noticed the first time I used my boat this year that the marina had my splitter in loose & it was burned. I should have really checked this further because I could have set the boat on fire with that defect.
I ended up meeting a fellow named Angelo who owns a sweet 420 Da and seasons here & we were able to cut off the melted plug on one of the cables & wire it directly to the panel feed. Another guy Randy have me white duck tape to cover the hole so I would look a little less ghetto. I'll try & post a pic of that later. Of course Sea Ray left about 1/2" of slack in the wire so it looks like I will need a new feed to the panel as well as a new outlet!
Oh the joys of boating!

Glad you got the problem identified Todd. Electrical issues are usually a PITA. The white tape looks good but I would have wrapped one of those NY Ranger or Giants apparel around the location just to make sure rain doesn't ingress....then toss the apparel later or give to me and will properly dispose of them as the hazardous waste they are.
