Just as an FYI: 17 and 17A are both green not red. It's not a big deal and if your not sure ask someone on the radio they are very willing to help out.

Venison chili has chilled in the fridge overnight. Yum yum. Packing the car now...

Anyone need anything before we leave?

Is that north side of the island in front of Moriches inlet? I thought that channel was impassable and had to go around the south side of island.

That was last year. Two years ago they dredged the channel straight through. By last year it had filled in and you had to use the east & west cuts toward the inlet to navigate south of the island. This year sandy completely filled in the east cut and moved the west cut all around. Apparently they won't even mark the current channel on the west cut because they don't want people using the inlet because it is all messed up too! I was told the coast guard isn't even using it anymore, I can't confirm that though.
So now you have to stay north of the island and go further north when you reach buoy 17.

We planned early arrival to SI area since we were picking up few trays from Greenport. So, I spent a night on the hook just across in Daring Harbor (1 of the 3 Shelter Isl harbors). Those that haven't been here, it's the smallest of the 3 and provides less protection. The anchorage is very limited and it's outside of mooring field, which makes you more exposed.

Everything was going as planned, we docked at Claudios for lunch and pick up food trays. Greg's crew were passing by and met us as well. As we were having lunch with nice waterfront views we see a nice 86 Azimuth approaching the laguna. She makes a u-turn to head stern in to the laguna and then rushes in. Captain is standing on the port side operating the joystick (I think it was "yacht control"). We all watching and Greg and I realized that he's planning dock right behind me and there's not much room for this boat. We jump of the chairs to oversee the scene. Oh well, needless to say my Flotilla was almost over before it even began. Apparently, the stupid "dockmaster" didn't feel like moving one small boat a foot or so and gave the captain green light that he was clear by me. He WAS NOT. As we observed how he was about 6" short we started yelling to back off and stop. The captain standing on port side stern of his yacht receiving another info from the crew in the back that he has to move forward as he was about to hit a boat behind him (the one that dockmaster failed to move). Take a guess what happened next....Yep, his massive anchor is plowing thru my brand new dinghy.

To my luck (I guess considering the circumstances this was lucky thing in a way), the damages are cosmetical. Ripped cover, scratched railing and scratched gelcoat. The captain and the owner were very apologetic. We got a tour of the yacht and had good conversations. Great people..... we were all sorry that we had to meet in such way. Anyway, we exchanged the contact info and I was told that all expenses will be reimbursed.

Here's she behind me as we both leave the dock:

Off to the Coecles Harbor. Russ and Mike are already there. We arrived about 4:45pm or so. Dropped our anchors, reviewed the wind prediction and decided not to waste the time and get things ready for Sat. So, we deployed stern anchors and marked our territory.

Folks, listen up....The floating fenders indicate where 3 of our stern anchors are. Please DO NOT go between the floating fenders and the raft or we'll have not a pretty site (to say the least).

The slashing machine is running, so the party is officially on.

All the pics are on the big cameras so we'll post them later.

One more thing. Evidently, as approaching the harbor my handheld VHF crapped out on me. So, if I'm not on the boat I won't hear you on VHF. IfI don't respond to VHF, please call my cell (participants know the #). Larry said he has a spare for me, so as soon as he gets here it should be easier to communicate.

Safe travel to all.

Alex, sorry to hear about your dinghy. What was the name on the Azimut? That looks like to one I travelled home from FL with in May. If it's the same one, the owner homeports it at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Ride today from Montauk to Block was pretty calm but drizzled the whole way here. Just clearing now.

Ok, Sea Ya Later & Noah's Ark have arrived at the raft! It's now officially a party!!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375561048.610290.jpg

Alex, sounds like you dodged a bullet......I would guess the Azimut is out of Sag Harbor. Theres several of them over there...just an FYI if you are ever back in Dering harbor, follow the marked channel in towards the town dock and make a turn to port just at the edge of the mooring field and follow along the mooring field a little ways and anchor there. Plenty of room to anchor and a lot more protected than being on the outside of the mooring field.
Looks like a good time...enjoy all!
Sorry we missed it this year... I've had 15 graduating high school seniors on the boat since last nite( boys and girls) tubing off the dinghy, jumping off the hard top, an other stuff I won't mention.... Trying to overlook the mess and saying this to shall pass and they are having a ball... Deep breath Steve..... You'll have your boat back to normal tomorrow.....

Just a suggestion...Try to get picts with the people on the stern by the names of their boats so we can put boats to names...Good luck guys....

I have a bad feeling that the rats attacked.
