All,

I'm looking for information on how the humidity control routine works on the Cruisair AC unit on most of our boats. The manual says very little.

Anyone use this feature .... comments?

I have the older SMX controls. I use the De-Hu mode. The default is 10 mins of high fan, then 30 mins of AC, then off for 12 hours. That can be adjusted.

I use mine during the summer when I'm not going to be at the boat for a while instead of running the AC. I use the same setting as RollerCoastr.

Thats good to know! I have teh SMX controls as well, was that in a manual somewhere? I don't see my boat all week and its a bit stuffy down there by the time I get there. I thought about running the AC all the time but figured that was a waste of money and wear on the unit since I'm not there to use it.

IIRC, it's in the manual twice. I think it first it mentions the mode, then later discusses how to alter the default settings / "program"...

The SMX aren't user-friendly, but they have a lot of features. You can dim the display, re-define how low "low fan speed" is, run the HU more or less often, calibrate the thermostat...

To activate the dehumidification mode, begin with the unit off, and simultaneously press COOL, HEAT, FAN. The display will blink HU.

Not only can it save wear & tear on the unit over running AC constantly, but by running on a timer instead of temp, it will remove moisture when it's damp and cool instead of only when it's warmer than the temp setting.

You might still find a stuffy boat in hot weather though. That's when you might adjust the interval.
