Craigslist is the go to place to sell a boat

What are you saying?

Hey, if the guy sells it there it's free. You never know!
Oh wait, it's a MarineMax brokerage boat. They'll still bang the owner for 10%!

General wisdom would say that people shopping in that price range are not hanging out on CL.... however, you would be surprised. That boat is way out of my price range but I personally know a good number of people that could afford it and they do shop CL for various things...boats included. Most rich people got there by being smart with their finances. I shop CL all the time and I can afford a much bigger, newer, more expensive boat than my '97 Cobalt but thankfully I've learned some financial lessons over years. For me, there is no advantage to the new boats that are the same size and cost 8x what I paid for my Cobalt. My boat is mint, it's good looking and it gets me on the water.

If I was shopping for a 650 Fly, I seriously doubt I'd be looking in CL.

I have purchased my last 2 boats off CL. They were, however, just a tad under this price range.

I sold my last boat on CL... CL is great place to sell or buy things... Why not...

I'd bet that MM has the owner sold on a new 80' Azimut and he won't pull the trigger until they sell the Sea Ray. The salesman has about $300K in commission $$ at stake here, if gets both sides of the deal, so he's pulling the stops out to move the 650FLY.

Most of the time these brokerages use a service that blasts the ad all over the place. craigslist is free so why not include that. In the end they get a slight advantage in search engine ranking. In looking at this ad though the fact that it doesn't come with a trailer is a deal breaker for me.

No interior pictures? And I was considering it...

Is it just me or is something amiss on this ad?

She he has twin CATS but runs on gas?
No interior shots. Even a low grade broker would have those photos, even if it's straight from the SR sales book.
MM has the boat listed at $2,795,000

im not saying it's a scam but it doesn't feel right

You mean CATS don't run on gas? :wow:

Maybe it was supposed to be gas turbines?

I don't know - when I was selling my 290DA I ran ads on Yatchworld, Boattrader, after not a lot of serious activity I put a $10 ad in the local newspaper classified and sold it the first week the ad ran -- you just never know.

If I'm paying a broker 10 points to sell my boat they better be doing everything humanly possible to market it. I don't see anything wrong with pitching it on CL though the quality of the ad is an embarrassment.

Regardless of price, it's just another way for that listing to show up in a search engine.
