These before and after pictures brought to you by our friends at 3M and Advil:

Starboard 1/2 done: That's my buddy Kevin. Guy is terrified of the water, won't even come on board even if we are just tied up at the dock. Has no problem helping out with the grunt work though, gotta love friends like that!

A bit of history, we picked this boat up about mid-june last year, and did nothing other than interior cleaning before dunking and using for the remainder of last season. This winter allowed me to do a bunch of upgrades and mods that I wanted, and I have finally had the time to do the compounding and polishing it so desperately needed.

I will do the rest of the 'white' polishing this week, as well as the bottom paint, prior to splashing this coming weekend.

On a side note, next year I am NOT removing the radar arch. What a PITA to get back on.

Now, back to the Advil & beer..

Cheers,

Randy.

now that's a before & after !

Well done Randy, that's a gorgeous job. Let me know when your friend is able to be rented out, LOL.

What compound did you use? It is day and night difference between the before and after pictures.

Andy,

This was the compound we used:

One 16oz bottle did, the entire accent stripe, and about 1/2 of the rest of the 'white' gelcoat.

2 bottles should do up to a 30' boat pretty easily, especially if they weren't as heavily oxidized as mine.

Looking forward to finishing the rest today. My arms are ready to kill me though.

Wow what a difference. This is the 3M stuff I have that I have not tried yet.

Nothing as cool as a classic brought back to life!

Wow Randy, great job!

Also, thank you for posting the photos.

It looks like you are using an orbital (non-random) with a bonnet. Is that correct?
I have used the 3M restorer and wax before. It does a great job restoring but not so great at protecting the surface, meaning that without following up with a traditional wax like flagship, the oxidization returns pretty fast.

I recommend you follow up your excellent hard work with a coat of wax to protect that shine then re-wax about every 3 months if stored outside.

Waxing a well polished fiberglass boat will not take a lot of elbow grease. Just rub on and wipe off.

Again, great job!
