Coastal Carolina Trip Summer 2009

Any new info about a Carolina Trip? Should we move this thread to the Carolina section? Did anybody know what type of water the ICW is in the Carolinas?

Ah "wet" :smt043Just guessing I would say probably brackish, depending on where one is at, e.g near an inlet or not.

The water in the ICW is brackish. The salinity content varies depending on you location. I went to Myrtle Beach two weeks a go and have a pretty stain on my hull that needs to be buff off.

Brackish water in a lot of places is very fresh so some of the other boats should be able to come along.

Thanks Wesley.

The only places I've been on the East Coast ICW have been very salty (SC-Charleston, South GA and North FL).

What kind of stain Paul?? I would have thought with as short of a trip as you had that you would not have got a stain??

Chuck, I boat in that BROWN coastal water all the time, Tannin is the culprit, tie your boat to the dock over night and you have the bathtub ring that is the color of the water and you have to acid clean it off. Whink, CLR or some product like it. I can put my boat in Friday PM or Sat AM, take it out of the water on Sunday and immediately was and I will still have to spend over an hour removing the stain.

Thanks for the heads up about Tannin. Did not know it worked that fast. Would an extra coat of wax help??

Chuck, It can't hurt, anything to help keep it further away will help, the wax may take the stain and hold instead of it getting to the gelcoat. The rivers and creeks where I am at times have a film of scum, at least that is what I call it, floating on the surface, you do not see it as bad when you get out to the ICW and the sound. I have washed some off when anchored at the beach, South end of Ossabaw Island, it cakes on the boat when sitting still, it sticks above the water line on the stern when backing in or removing the boat from the water. The scum will wash off but the stain stays, have to work it to get it off. You will get the ring 4 to 6 inches wide all the way around the boat at the water line area.

I fish georgetown allllllll the time in my 245 dancer,The Hampton Inn in easily accessible, and georgetown marina is next door(across the street).Lots and lots of boat parking.Stay on board with shore power for like 30 a night.Lots of good boating and on the intercoastal as well.Im game, yall set the date and we will make it happen...
