So just turned my batteries on for the first time this year. Had them on the trickle charger all winter in maintenance mode. Anyway, boat has been sitting for awhile so batteries are probably low. But anyway my one CO monitor keeps beeping. The boat is on the trailer in the driveway and I have not started it yet this season so wondering if it's because the batteries are low or maybe the CO monitor is bad. Good chance it's the original (2006) so I should replace it anyway (replace both of them). But was just curious if a low battery would cause it. It has a steady red light meaning a high alarm. Beeping means low according to the label on it.

They will beep when the batteries are low but only if they are very low. If they went that low with no use the batteries probably need to be replaced. Non AGM batteries are generally good for 5 seasons if your lucky but 3-4 is not out of the normal, AGM should be good for 7 or more.

If the detector is original or you think its original it should be replaced, 7 years is normal, 10 years at most.

The batteries were new in August 2018 when we bought the boat and boat is also plugged into shore power in summer and in winter batteries stay in my basement connected to trickle charger (has maintenance mode). They have been sitting in the boat for about 5-6 weeks now no connected to any charger but nothing on the boat has been turned on. My power hatch worked just now when I raised it so they have at least some charge.

And yeah, they are standard batteries, not AGM

Shut the batteries off to install a new battery box and then plugged in my shore power to my garage and when I turned the batteries back on no more beeping. But I still need to replace those anyway. We have no gennie and nobody is ever in the cabin when the engine is running but I still want good working CO monitors

I had the same problem on my boat, then did some checking and discovered that CO detectors have a programmed end of life date. On mine it was printed (EOL) on a little sticker and it was 5 years from manufacture. I had never heard of that, but the tech at our marina suggested I look for the date sticker and sure enough. So, I replaced them all and the new ones have EOL of 7 years from manufacture. Maybe worth a check for you.
