What does everyone use to clean their upholstery? I'm looking for something to clean it and at the same time protect, preserve it.

Thanks!

Big Boat Guys do know somethings!

If you're wanting to clean stuff here is the Lubbers 411.

I'm from the school that thinks if it says "Marine" it is probably just hype in a bottle.

Not everything marine is worth the extra bucks.

At HD, I use a few products that are concentrated, cheap to use and really work great.

ZEP Non Ammonia Window Cleaner, Blue in color, dilutes up to 30:1 I use it about 10:1 It is used on everything in the cockpit, carpets, white vinyl seats, gelcoat and yes even glass wind screens! It leaves no streaks, it cleans deep and does not remove the plasticisrs in the vinyl. Stuff costs about 6 bucks a gallon! And my appolstry alwasy looks like new.

Want more ....?

Zep Orange Citrus Degreaser. Used at about 4 to 10:1 to clean up galleys, shower stalls, and heavier soils and diesel spills on deck. Great product & low foaming. Helps keep the grey water sump smelling better as well.

Formula 88 Degreaser. In my area you can get it at Walgreens, CVS, HD and yes, West Marine. Sells for about 7-8 bucks a gallon, (on sale for $5.00) spray it on straight on engines, bilge floors and walls, sump boxes and scrub lightly with a nylon brush as necessary, hose off quickly with fresh water. (will strip wax instantly). Surfaces are squeeky spanky clean and bright with almost no foam which is great for use in the bilge as it cleans the pumps and doesn't cause airation.

For serious issues we use a really HD cleaner/degreaser called ROLL-OFF and man this stuff will clean it no matter ... and it will remove any oils from vinyl so be careful, but a quart will make about 15 gallons of cleaner. Costs about 8 bucks a quart. I keep the bilge pump check valves clean by cleaning up the horse stables then hoseing everything down to the bilge. Then I throw a few OZ of Roll Off in the back bilge sump and stir with a long handled brush as it pumps out. (Spray the sea cocks with Boeshield after this manuver).

Then finally we keep a gallon of "Os-Pho", not sure what I Last paid for OSPho but its worth twice that but shsssh! don't tell'em.
This is buffered phosphoric acid around which is used to derust & descale stuff. It strips wax and will clean teak as well so caution is called for where and when its used. Got a nasty greasy rusted kettle grill, soak it in hot water and Roll-Off solution just to cover the parts and ad a pint of Os-Pho. Shazaam! Need to get the critters off the inside of those sight glasses on those sea strainers ... like new brothers and sisters. No muss no fuss easy peazy.

My name last name is not Poppins!

You will find several topics on this if you use the search feature at the top of the board. I pulled one for you which will probably help. Good luck with it.

I'm interested in this thread too. I couldn't find one about cleaning the interior upholstery? We had someone spill some suntan lotion(the real dark greasy kind) on the forward berth fabric and we tried everything and it's still stained :smt013 . Thoughts??

That fabric is Sunbrella on your interior cushions and their web site has all kinds of information on cleaning the various fabrics they supply. http://www.sunbrella.com/na/en/default.pl

I use a product called "Ducky" to clean the boat's interior and 303 aerospace protectant which has uv inhibitors for the vinyl. A spray bottle with 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar works well as a cleaner for everything including stainless steel.
