Cleaning carpet covers

when the dogs spilled a pot of cooked sticky rice on our sunbrela snap in carpet covers.

i took them to the landry mat and washed on gentel cycle and let drip dry, cliped to bow rail.

when dry, retreated with 303 fabric guard as our were water proofed to start with.
they came out look like new

I take mine to the house and wash them in the washing machine and they come out pretty clean.

I throw mine in the washer & dryer several times a season with no problems. My three little ones make sure that this needs to be done!

do 3 kids trump 2 dogs???????????:smt043

no matter how you clean; would recommend the 303 or even 3m scotch guard before putting back down. spilled or dripping water ect will bead right up and make clean up a snap. wet feet, swim suits and yes wet dogs.

any and all above cleaning good advice

for record i use woolite detergent as that's what was recommended for the sunbrela cover on the 230 back in "88"

Yep, same for me too. Wash in washer, using Woolite. Lay flat on living room carpet till dry. Waterproof with 303 Waterproofer & let them air out before re-installing. Repeat when necessary. Mine's been washed many times. I've even used Spray & Wash on spots. They say you can use bleach but I'm scared to try that.

Sunbrella even says you can use a certain amount of bleach. Have done so in commercial washing machine and comes out great.
Agree with others on hanging till dry and then using 303. Good luck.

Another approach that works is to lay them out on a clean concrete driveway and hose them down. I pour on liquid Tide with a generous amount of bleach and scrub them with a stiff push broom. Sounds like over kill but I did it for years with great results. Flood them with a garden hose sprayer until all the soap disappears and dry them in the dryer set to cool air. They smell good after this process.

Same as all the other folks here wash them and hang out to dry. I am so picky that after they are dry I will iron them to remove any wrinkles.

Late but home washer here also. The spin cycle leaves them damp-to almost dry. This eases the install aslo. The clean soap smell is always nice in the cabin.

How much bleach. My aft canvas is loaded with mildew. Every time it rains, it comes back.

My covers were off white and I poured the bleach right from the bottle and scrubbed away with a push broom. I believe the color is a part of the fiber, but if you have a dark color I'd test a small area of a piece of spare fabric. I think you will be surprised how tough Sunbrella is.

From the Sunbrella website...

For stubborn stains and/or mildew

Sunbrella fabric does not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric.
  • Prepare a solution of 1 cup bleach and 1/4 cup of mild soap per gallon of clean water.*
  • Soak affected area in solution for 15 minutes.
  • Remove stain with a sponge or clean towel.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
  • Air dry.
*If stain and/or mildew are severe, bleach quantities may be increased. See our Stain Chart for removal of specific stains.
