Did you just call me a dickhead? How about I noticed something that is a safety hazard that maybe you were unaware of and I was trying to save your life.

Did I say you are the dickhead.....NO.:smt021 Thank you, for your conern:smt038, but I don't need anyone to save my life but myself and God that's it:wow:.

In before the lock. :smt043

They locked the Bay/:x*#er thread and let this go?

"Safety First", people here really do care about other members and safety on the water and at the dock. If they suggest I change something I'm going to do it. They know their stuff. That makes this site great. :smt038

So, Lose the fan and the attitude. :smt021
NO attitude, lets stay on the subject about the rehab video's not the fan deal WTF. SOMEBODY:huh: had to bring up the fan issue for no reason...Bluh, Bluh safety first I understand that, but let's FOCUS:wow::wow: ON WHAT THE POST WAS REALLY ABOUT.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Along the way as the posts fly you may notice a change of subject that has nothing to do about the subject posted here. You may also get a good laugh like I did, and alot of hits as well Thanks and continue reading, Peace to all man kind.

"SOMEBODY:huh: had to bring up the fan issue for no reason"

I pointed out the "fan issue" in post #14 and it was for a reason. I had you and your neighbours safety in mind. Now that I know that you don't care, I will do my best to stay on topic.

Let's see, the thread started with an egocentric "Check This Out, A must See" subject. Not a friendly " older boat rehab videos". An unsafe boating practice was noted and explained to the OP. The OP demonstrates a careless, know it all attitude that is met with sarcasm. Sarcasm is rebutted with petty name calling of our best contributors, all while insisting "I'll do what I want, it's all about me". I presume your slip mates and marina are ignorant of your unsafe actions, but if they knew, and understood, they, like us, would enjoy seeing your videos on Craigslist.

Right on!

****. I only wanted to show the rehab work done:grin:, not some dickhead:smt013 looking over the video with a fine tooth comb looking at the FAN, and not focusing on what the complete subject was about:thumbsup: so go back to page one and start over.

absolutely........not!

Well I did see the fan in your video. I was the first to mention it on one of your 40 posts about the same thing. SO, you are annoyed by me and others that were looking out for your safety. Your arrogant reaction that "I don't need anybody to save my life" BS is amazing. You're a rookie here and by most of your All about me posts are puff and fluff. Yes, you seem to have done a nice job restoring an old girl back to glory, but the fan is a rookie mistake and one others, including yourself can and should learn. Just because it hasn't killed you yet doesn't mean it won't. That ignorant logic goes along with driving down the freeway without a seat belt. Somebody has done that their whole life and has never been in an accident. The rest of us know the better odds.

What you don't realize is there are other rookies here that may have read this thread and thought because you've done it that it was OK to install a fan in the bilge. Your reaction is defensive regarless of you calling me a dickhead or one of the others, but either way you're calling out someone as a dickhead who is trying to educate you and protect you, your family and dock neighbors. Dismissing it out of hand around here is called an "Asshat".

CSR is full of lots of different types of boaters. Many of us here have learned a tremendous amount of info by more experienced boaters. Many of them have done things incorrectly and it was pointed out by those with the experience or education. There are many boaters here that have different sizes, types of boats and have spent the time as you did restoring yours modifying, repairing and maintaining them. To spit our the "I don't need anyone to save my life" drivel is foolish.
So if that's the way you want to play it and you're simply here to show off a video and spout off in 40 threads about the same restoration project "Look at me, look at me, look at me" and "Let's stay on topic here" and ignore the elephant in the room, that's fine but don't let the others that may not have known about the hazard think it's Ok or no big deal, because it is a big deal.

Well said

All the OP had to say was something like "OK... thanks for the advice on the fan!" and got back on topic.

In before the lock...

If you are caught using automotive parts, like a starter or alternator in your boat, you are required to remove it from your slip and club property or it will be removed. Our liability insurance costs enough and we care about fellow boaters and their lives too. Never thought about a fan, Mike.

Well, first off, this will be my last post on this forum unless I see some attitude changes. I know I don't post that much, but I'd rather persue my hobbies than type about them(300 + hours per year on the boat).

Second of all: If it will make you guys feel better, I'll make spark arrestors for the infamous ER-FAN. Yes, it can be done. You "experts" take a close look at a "marine alternator" and you'll see nothing more than arrestor screens on the inside of the rear housing vents.

As for the fan being there, he got the advise from a 60-some year old dockmaster that's had one in is boat(s) for more years than most here have been at this, without a single "KABOOM".

Do all of you nay-sayers change your plug wire every few weeks to make sure there are no sparks? Ever see bad wires in the dark? I'm sure most have something with your boat that's overlooked.

Todd, great post....right on the money

I just read this thread with amazement. First, I'm amazed that 83 thinks his work is that great....it's just OK. Second, I'm amazed at the mouth on this guy and I am not a prude but, geez. Third, I am amazed that this a-hole is such a know-it-all that he thinks what he is doing is right. Fourth, I'm amazed that Jarhead thinks that just because some old geezer told 83 it was OK to have a fan in the bilge that it IS OK. It only works until the first time it doesn't.

I guess I could continue but why. Nothing we say will matter and I truely feel bad for people around him because the dickhead, yes dickhead, will not be the one to get hurt when his 28 year-old tub blows up. It will be the innocent folks around him that will get hurt.

Hey 83, if it was OK to put a non-ignition protected appliance in an engine room why wouldn't every boat manufacturer have an AC outlet in the engine rooms? Maybe up there in Wisconsin you should stick to snowmobiles and leave the boating to people that know what they are doing.

Do you have to trash the whole state, I mean come on ain't there a few people in CA that have some loose screws too.

Well there are smaller fans that can fit in a snowmobile ER too. Anything that uses gasoline should be off the wish list for now as we work our way through this. This is a man that loves his fan and hates moisture so we have to think out of the box. We know moisture is the problem and the fan isnt going anywhere. Wish I had such a relationship with my fans but to be honest I could take 'em or leave 'em. Anyway, this is a clear cut case of a need for conversion to electric power. He can restore boats, electric conversion isnt that tough. Keep the fan, there I said it, yes, keep the fan and go electric. Now you really can have it all; a fan in the engine room, safety and dryness.

A few???? There is a boatload of folks here with multiple screws loose and most of them are here in Sacramento. :smt001

This thread made me do this.

EDIT, That was a little too gruesome sorry.
