Celebrating America? Gag me with a spoon please!

Yeah, but he never blew smoke up people's butts either. If he didn't like you, he'd let the whole fkg world know.
Well, I know you admire that trait of his. I don't. Neither does a lot of the GOP right now.

Go reasearch the truth about US immigration. You're playing the immigration control = racist card. The reason illegal immigration is out of control in the USA is because the powers that be don't care about selling out their middle class constituents. The Democrats see them as future votes. The Republicrats see them as cheap labor that benefits business. The middle class see them as a threat because they keep doward pressure on their wages and use up government services (ie; see the public school systems). That doesn't make them racists, white supremisists, etc.
I did NOT say that immigration control = racism at all. You are misreading what I said. I do not think that immigration control is racist. I am supportive of immigration control, as long as it is not for racist reasons. For the majority of American's they don't see immigration control as racist. And they are right. They also understand that if you aren't American Indian, you are an immigrant.

But what I am saying is that you and I hear Trump's rhetoric and understand what he is trying to say (even if we disagree on how immigration should be controlled, we agree it needs to be controlled).

What I am saying is that the racists that are out there (and there are many) hear those same words and twist it to mean that the POTUS is anti-immigration. And Trump wanted it that way. He wanted to tell you what he was going to do, and you "get it", and yes, he wanted the racists to also hear the words and take it their own way so they would support him and vote.

No one knows what the future holds...Yet....

I struggle even coming in this thread...

Look, perhaps most of us are wrong and the new administration is the light to peace and proprietary for all....We can hope...

But, when Cuomo makes a statement like this and doesn't understand how stupid he sounds, I'm not sure what to say......

"“The fundamental injustice is that New York state has always given Washington more than it gets back,” he said." - Well, when we are giving to a collective system, does it make sense that you're going to get it all back? Wouldn't it be nice that when we send Washington out taxes they sent it all back? I mean WTF....

Anyway, what I don't get is all the Dems fleeing the mess they made in these far left leaning states for conservative states and then don't recognize that perhaps they are the ones that need to rethink things. I would be happy if they simply took accountability for their mistakes and learned from them...But, I'm certain that no matter what problems arise it will be blamed on Trump...A guy who hardly in politics for 4 years.... So convenient...

Funny thing about Bidens being locked out was they were the ones that fired the guy that was supposed to be opening the door because he was a leftover from Trump.

And as to the immigration and children, yeah nobody knew about it back when Obama had the cages built because it didn't support the MSM agenda so it was never reported.

I am not saying they may go up in future if there are taxes or other parts to the green deal. But it ain't today. Don't get me wrong. I drive a friggen 0.9 mpg vessel and I love doing it, and I hate high gas prices. And I hate politicians that use tree hugging and global warming fearmongering to hide raising taxes for other purposes (the Canadian liberal experience). I am just saying that it ain't 3 days into a new administration. Its just not the way gasoline prices work in the short term.
It is absolutely the way "gas" prices work here in the US. They use any excuse possible to raise them -- well before any effect on supply/demand. And they go up $.25-.50 overnight. They come down $.05 at a time.

I have a better idea for a 28th amendment. Canadians must stfu about American politics until their nation does something consequential in world history.
are you kidding ? The canudians designed obamacare ,and only charged more to do it than the mexico wall.

I disagree only Obama could come up with a shit plan like that and shove it down our throats sight unseen.... it’s not fair to blame the Canadians for the biggest phuck up of all time

Ok,but he did pay them to design the website to sign up for o care that didnt work. How about a pipeline to mexico from canada? How about we bring our large manufacturing companies back to the us from canada like say general motors. Then biden can tax the crap out of them for automobile export fees.

Well it isn’t based on elections. That was happening before and it will in the future. Capitalism I guess so I am not going to ask for regulation of prices. But it’s frustrating.

Here’s a silver lining. Once electric cars start to knock back petroleum demand I think gas prices may drop until the economics of refining shifts. Fingers crossed.

I support Trumps immigration policies, does that mean I'm 'crew?'. You're caught up in the BS, there certainly is a lot of it out there.

Michele Obama said Americans “watch in horror as children are torn from their families and thrown into cages.” Here's what she didn't tell you.....

Trump used facilities that were built during the Obama-Biden administration to house children at the border. They are chain-link enclosures inside border facilities where migrants were temporarily housed, separated by sex and age.
At the height of the controversy over Trump’s zero-tolerance policy at the border, photos that circulated online of children in the enclosures generated great anger. But those photos — by The Associated Press — were taken in 2014 and depicted some of the thousands of unaccompanied children held by President Barack Obama.

When that fact came to light, some Democrats and activists who had tweeted the photos deleted their tweets. But prominent Democrats have continued to cite cages for children as a distinctive cruelty of Trump.

Obama's deportations exceed that of any other president. Here's an interesting graph, you'll see the difference in Obama and Trump. Obama put emphasis on hunting down the illegals inside the country and deporting. Trump put emphasis on not letting illegals in to start with. Study this graph, give the subject some original thought.

I by no means endorse most of Obama's actions, but as Woody points out above:

"Here's an interesting graph, you'll see the difference in Obama and Trump. Obama put emphasis on hunting down the illegals inside the country and deporting. Trump put emphasis on not letting illegals in to start with."

Here's the thing, the vast majority of illegals in America did not get here by smuggling themselves across the borders. They came in legally with Visas, and then never returned after their Visas expired. So short of closing the borders to all foreign visitors, focusing on the illegals in the country is the most efficient way of dealing with the problem.

1956 olds....FWIW ..... most large American manufacturers left Canada a long time ago...Caterpillar, Mack Truck, Navistar due to high energy costs, taxes, unfriendly business environment etc.
GM had a large plant in Oshawa..it closed last year but now expected to reopen next year with half the jobs and union concessions.

From 7 years ago......”Manufacturers have been flocking back to the U.S., adding 500,000 new jobs in the past three years, and are expected to add another 1.2 million by the end of the decade. Meanwhile, Canada is continuing to bleed factory positions. Since 2006, it has lost more than 355,000 manufacturing jobs—80,000 in the past year. Canada’s automotive industry has been particularly hard hit”

And things haven’t gotten any better, despite what our woke pm might say.

But, you must admit, that there is a very significant portion of the far right that want immigration stopped.

I respectfully disagree with you in the strongest of terms. This fabrication by the Mainstream Media that conservatives want to cease all immigration is just that...a fabrication. What conservatives want, is for people to walk up to the front door and ring the doorbell.

Spot on !

We are all immigrants even the Indians that came 10,000 years ago. Difference is they did not have any government hand outs. If you had no food you either staved or your neighbors helped you.

Interesting how people vote against their economic self interests and support policies that undermine the country's strengths. Shows widespread ignorance of history as well as a lack of critical thinking skills. Means more pain for the middle class and people on budgets. Also shows lack emotional maturity for punishing an obnoxious President who did things that needed to be done, and accomplished a great deal in 4 years.

Woody, be honest and admit your graph, using manipulated numbers, was actually published by the Cato Institute, not by ICE as is implied. The Cato Institute, once fully funded by the Kochs, is one of the leading manufacturers of Republican toxic propaganda, cynically undermining science and scholarship to serve the interests of tobacco companies, oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, health insurance, financial industry and other Cato donors. Cato alumni have gone so far as to publishing material suggesting Blacks and Latinos are genetically inferior to whites.

You did it again!
You once again distort the true facts. Yes, Obama had chain link partitions built to separate demographics in massive holding facilities. But they were only used as 72 hour holding areas, not in the callous and cruel way Trump did.
The Obama administration held immigrants in chain-link enclosures described as "cages" at border processing facilities. But the infamous photo you reference, that was widely shared in the Facebook posts, is not from his tenure. The image shows overcrowded migrant detention facilities in summer 2019 — during the Trump administration.

The photo was taken from a July 2019 Homeland Security Inspector General report on overcrowding at immigrant detention facilities in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas. The report says the photo shows "overcrowding of families observed by the Office of the Inspector General on June 10, 2019," in McAllen, Texas.
