I have some battery acid/water mixture that has splashed into my bilge area adjacent to the batteries.

I did top off my battery cells with distilled water last weekend, and, for the most part, did not overfill them.

Do you think the battery acid solution in the bilge is just a result of some minor overfill of the batteries, or because of a potential overcharge issue with the battery charger that is part of my 2006 340 Sundancer?

Also, do you know if ther 2006 340 has a "standard" or "safe" type battery charger system?

Thank you.

I've heard of batteries gassing off electrolyte, but never boiling over like that. If they did, I'm sure they'd be shot. What voltage (fully charged) are you reading?

How is it you're certain it's electrolyte and not water?

If you fill too full, they will boil over...just give it a good rinse and watch for more.

I had a similar problem and was blaming the charger. It turned out to be a hairline crack where the top is bonded to the case. You could not see it and the acid running down the side made you think it was coming from the vents. The crack started after the second season….The dealer said he never saw anything like this…or so he said

Something to look at

How full? You should only add water to bring the electrolyte level no higher than to the bottom of the split ring. Bring the level to the top and the gassing of charging will fountain electrolyte.

Thank you everyone for your responses..

Sadly, it was probably due to me filling the cells to high.

I am having a mechanic check it just to be sure.
