Hi,

i have a sea ray 450da 1997 in Florida.
Twin caterpillar 3116 engines, my mecanic told me to order rotella t1 40w oil.
I received the oil but it says cf2 is that oke?
Got around 1600 hours

Dont want to mess up the engines

thanks

There's a recent thread on that here: Caterpillar 3116/3126 engine oil availability

I have always used the CAT SAEO oil, but as mentioned in the above thread, that's no longer available for our use. I was at the local CAT dealer yesterday hoping to buy their DEO-ULS 15w-40 oil, but they had none in stock and couldn't tell me when they would get any in. Since I'm doing my oil change this weekend, I found a local NAPA that will have the Rotella T1 30w in stock tomorrow, so I'm going with that this round.

What type engines do you have?

so i should be good then?

Mine are 1998 3116s. Others on this forum have been using the T1 straight weight oil for years with no problems, I was only using the SAEO in the past because of my previous concerns with sooting, but those have been addressed and the latest oils have been proven to be safe to run in our engines.

I think you will be fine. The 40w is appropriate (I think) for Florida, I went with 30w since I operate in a colder environment and tend to use the boat year round, so I need the lighter weight (higher viscosity) formula.
