In case anybody is looking...

I ordered 15 gallons of Shell Rotella T1 SAE 40 at $19.99 gallon with free shipping to the house from Advance Auto Parts yesterday. 6 gallons showed up today.

SAE 30 could be had for about $16 at a couple places. Seems this is about what I paid for it last year.

Wholly crap…. Are you bragging or complaining….. $20/gallon ? :eek::eek:

I normally order T6 10w-40 Rotella from Sam’s Club. After looking at the website for about a week and it being unavailable, I found it on sale at Tractor Supply for $14.99/gal and bought what I needed for both engines and the gen. Came home and was on Sam’s Club website and low and behold, here it was for $13.98 delivered…Oh well…

This year? Bragging. I'm just hoping I get all 15 gallons.

If I don't get all of it I'll be bitchin'

Us CAT guys are limited to strait weight oil, and it was never cheap. I guess I could have saved a few bucks and gone with 30 wt...

Which brings a newbie CAT owner question:

In all these years I have not once had to add any oil to my Yanmars.

No drips, no leaks, no burns and no blow by.

Always carried several quarts on board, but never once cracked one open.

In the engine room of the 450TA I find 5 separate gallons of oil, squirreled away in a variety of places.

So the question is - How much oil would be prudent to keep on board and should these be in gallon or quart containers?

BEST !

My engines do not drip, leak, burn or otherwise use any oil. I change yearly using Rotella T1, and CAT filters, and thats it. I do not carry oil onboard anymore. My PO did have a crate of various fluids, but I removed.

I carry one extra gallon. I have never needed to open it.

This stuff was really hard to find last fall. I went to over a dozen stores, finding a gallon here, two there, none most places. I paid anywhere from $14 to $30 a gallon. Yup. Ouch. It appears to be showing up a bit more these days around me (mid Chesapeake Bay) but I’m not surprised to hear it’s still in tight supply.

I ordered a frickn $2,000 75 gallon gas water heater today….7 weeks delivery….. the plumber had it in stock fully installed for $5,000
It’s just leaking so it can sit there for 7 weeks

things aren’t going to get better for a year at least and let’s hope we don’t go into a recession in the mean time

Sounds like the boating community is getting ready to hit the wall. It will be an interesting year fo sho!
