I have a 2001 SR 230BR Signature that I bought last December. Now that the thaw has come and I have unwrapped it, I have a much better view of what needs to be done to get it ready for spring.

The first thing I noticed was that there are snaps missing/broken - a few on the carpet and quite a few on the canvas.

Since I will be slipping it, it's important that I have all the snaps in working order on the canvas ... and for general use purpose on the carpet.

The question is, I want to buy a snap tool as I can see some more snaps popping off in the future. I betting that with all the snapping/unsnapping that will be going on, it would be normal to pop a few here and there.

So ... is there a tool that anyone recommends?

What size snaps do I know to buy? I looked at a few sites and the sizes seem to vary. I obviously need the ones that fit the permanently mounted male snaps on the floor/deck and the sides of the boat.

Thanks in advance for your help and insight.

Can I assume that if I go to one of these sites (westmarine.com, iboats.com, etc.) that the snaps are going to be universal in size?

This is the tool I bought and it works flawlessly. Also makes you popular around the dock ;-)

Thanks a lot! I searched the forums and didn't come up with that one.

Back to my last question though. The female part of the snap (the part on the canvas or the carpet), are they all the same size/universal? Does anyone have a fave place for ordering them?

I believe you will find the best deal with www.sairite.com The s.s. snaps can be purchased with brass or s.s. screws. Their female snap pliers are a good affordable option. most important is to keep those snaps lubed and dont use anythign that will attract dirt. Suggestion si to use "snap lube" from Shurehold products.

G' Luck

Great Lakes Canvas makes most / if not all of the Sea Ray canvas when new. They have a great customer service department and will work with yo on the correct male/female snaps, etc.

This is also the manufacturer of the $150 snap tool. You can find cheaper but I challenge you to find better.

Good luck!

I will look them up and call them today.

Appreciated!

The one that four sons recommended is the best. It is called PRESS-N-SNAP tool...

I got one from Great Lakes last year... The problem with the cheaper ones is they are hard to align the snaps, and they typically don't roll the end of the snap uniformly and pop off. Here is where I found the least expensive for $103 http://www.rochfordsupply.com/produ..._SubCatID_E_505_A_ProdID_E_3390_A_promoid_E_5

I just bought the tool and extra snaps from Great Lakes for 49.00. Just got them this morning with my new isenglass front viser. I ordered several kits from Overtons and they were junk. Snaps pulled back off the first time. So I sent them back.
Great lakes has the original heavy duty snaps. At least they have enought pride to put the name on them.

We've used the Press-n-Snap tool for I don't even know how long - and we, obviously, use it much more than most individuals would. Hands down, there is nothing better.

"DOT" snaps is what you're after.

Oh, don't confuse the "DOT" snaps with "pull the dot" snaps. Different things.

Received this tool last week from rochfordsupply. I replaced a few snaps and tried out the grommet dies over the weekend. Very impressed with it and glad I can now toss that POS snap setter I purchased from WM.

+1 for the PRESS-N-SNAP! Our shop uses this tool and we loan them out to customers when they purchase new snap-in carpets. There's not a better snap tool on the market! It is definitely the 'industry standard'!
