Carling USB Charger

That looks pretty cool! I have a few blank spots I could fill too!

I like this, looks like they are deep though, where would you fit it?

I have a blank 'Accessory' where this fits perfect. Guess I'll have to wait for it to hit the market. TTI does say 5 in stock, but with 8 Weeks MFG lead-time.

Not to mention that the Carling isn't much more expensive, but much more expensive-LOOKING. A cheap charger will really stand out in the switch panel. I like how the Carling will match the other actuators.

I have the even cheaper Blue Seas charger, but I haven't installed it yet. I've been debating whether I want to replace the cig adapter in the dash or run wires and mount it in the cockpit counter/console, which is where phones tend to collect anyway.

Nice and heres another opinion i was going to install a few stations throughout the boat . Each stateroom, cockpit, helm and bridge for anyone that wanted to charge a devive. I thought 2.1 amps is what was needed to charge the ipad whats the reccommended amps then? I have read on Apple forums that the more amps your putting into the ohone/pad will charge it faster, there will be damge to the battery. the chargers that come with the phones limit the amps going into it thats why car chargers make your phone heat up whike the i charger (while taking longer) doesnt heat up the battery. I dont know if 3.1 amps is too much but ill play it safe and take a little longer to charge. http://www.tallonsystems.com/products/view/mini_socket_usb_truck/

Heard back from Carling. Its not available yet. They didn't give me a estimated date. They just said to check there website to find my nearest distributor and check with them.

I have several Vimar USB outlets that fit into my existing switchplates. I put them in locations in the boat that already had 110 outlets behind cabinetry, and then just used spare adapters. The outlets have a terminal block on the back, so they can be used for data as well as just charging.

You have to get transformers for those, correct? I am planning on replacing all my phone Vimar outlets with these and getting a 12v - 5V step down transformers for them (and running the power to 12v source). Or did you extend an existing USB to this?

Yes, they don't come with power or cabling, so I chopped the "B" end off of a USB cable and wired that to the terminal block on the fixture. I plugged the "A" end into a spare iPad adapter for one and a spare iPhone adapter for the other. Both are plugged into 110v outlets.

I have a 3rd fixture that I haven't installed yet. My intention was to use a long cable and run it from the audio cabinet to the other end of the settee so phones etc could be plugged into the stereo without having to keep the stereo cabinet door open.

If it's 4.2 total across the 4 inlets, that's only 1.05 amps per outlet. I don't think that would be enought to jump start an iPad.

There are only 2 USB connections. Where do you get 4?

From the instruction manual.
The Duplex USB Charger/Tamper Resistant Outlet provides two
5VDC - 3.6A DC powered USB ports and two 15A-125VAC or
20A-125VAC outlets.
• The USB ports are used to charge portable electronic devices ONLY
